front shackles (nipple rings) are not for recovery, just for show, like car shows at the mall
the factory hook is for moderate recovery
the best frame attached aftermarket one is about $300
you get what you pay for with China crap

Yes, junk hardware. If you want them for for luxe, that’s great, but only a fool would use those for recovery.

Not even the hook that is on the off-road model is for recovery.

    Possibilities for OP’s next post:

    1. “I added front shackles. Do I need to upgrade to 700lb springs?”

    2. “can I fit 33’s with front shackles?”

    3. “vibrations after install of new shackles.”

this guy is trolling us all.

he might be, he might not be.

The key point is some new guy who has absolutely no clue might possibly see this and this might actually save a life.

There was a guy killed out in Arizona last couple months during a recovery they were using a ball hitch it let loose fire through the cab like a cannonball.

At least the pink ones are easy to find when they fall off- found several of them on one of the long washboard roads I travel on a lot. I don’t keep them though, they get hung on the fence when I pick them up.

Very aware of that situation. If this was an isolated “amateur” question I could see that but from OP’s post history, this is not the case.

    Dude.
Certain things are not cheap. The cheap ones are just for looks. Expensive ones are for recovery.
And, on an SR, there is no place for two.

    Enough for now
Get a synthetic soft shackle, safer, strong, and easier on your truck and the puller

Negative Ghost rider. Soft shackles do not look good.

Probably not. There are a lot out there with no knowledge. Not stupid, just ignorant of off road or trucks in general

Yes we've all heard the rumor by now

I don't know that cheap and reliable can be used together within the context of your post.

I remember reading a news article 1 or 2 summers ago about a man up in Kingman AZ who decided to take his family out wheeling in the mud after a good monsoon storm. He got the truck stuck in some mud pretty deep, his buddy came out to help him recover the vehicle. Wife and kids got out of the truck while his buddy attached the rope/strap to his drop hitch and tried to yank him out of the mud. The drop hitch sheared off and went through the guys windshield right before it went through his face right in front of his family. No, he didnt survive, i'm pretty sure it was instant. So no, don't go cheap on things like this.

I remember that, super sad. I think he used a chain on an old Chevy Tahoe and it went like a missile through the windshield and the drivers face. All bad. Don’t go cheap and learn how to do a proper recovery, hood up, right gear, and correct math.
