thanks for the reply. Do you think I could get away with just cleaning the pipe so as to not take off the valve and have to replace the gasket? Or can the valve be cleaned as well? Thanks again.

Mine was 96…..the gasket came apart in 4 separate parts !

I would replace gasket or have one on hand just in case
I bought one from autozone $4

Yeah the egr gaskets.....pair of them at the intake get cooked pretty bad, and can be a pain to remove.

Usually its the intake port thats carboned up, needs to be cleaned every 150K or so.

Well worth the effort.....the egr protects your head gasket and exhaust valves.....for long life....

    Clean the passages

See if the valve diaphragm will hold vacuum and open when vacuum is applied

Make sure the solenoid valve that opens and gives vacuum to the entire system is working properly

It’s a three-piece gasket, correct? There’s the one for the valve, and then the two ends of the pipe?

Yep there is three all together.....
the ones I got at the parts store were too small.
I had to order the oem's to get correct fit....

I even replaced the steel tube with a Dorman one......which was completely unnecessary...

the pcv port and the temp sensor passage going into the intake manifold was what was gummed up....... about half carboned up.....at 140K.

    CIMG4997.jpg

The left felpro one did not fit, the stud spacing was too close......and not fixable...

    Wow good info, thank you.
On my Taco the port faces the firewall. How could you see if it’s clogged or gum up? Or are you referring to just the pipe?

u know what, i just remembered having to use a file to modify the felpro gasket to fit(metal in center of gasket material)

yeah @ O’Silver_Taco above said he went to buy OEM because of that. I’m assuming he went to the dealer. They want $18 for each gasket though here.

    Not sure what to do.
I got the two felpro gaskets for the pipe from Orielly. I’m gonna pull the pipe off and check to see if there’s any blockage from end to end. if there is, done.
If not, then I’m going to proceed to takeoff the EGR valve and go from there.
Does that sound like a good plan of action?

There wont be any blockage in that tube......its just exhaust gas.

only exception would be if the oil rings were shot and it was profusely using oil.

The blockage will happen at the the junction of the egr and pcv port going into the upper intake manifold,
especially if the pcv valve was neglected at some point and stuck open..

IF the egr sticks open the engine wont start or at least wont idle.........should always be suspect in an old no start 2rz/3rz

The higher end scanners will let you watch the egr and the vsv valves in action while watching live data.
