Check engine light after new gas cap

    I see alot of Locking gas caps as a mechanic. My question is, do you or anyone you now anyone that got their gas stolen or it happens alot ?

    Had the same happen and ended up back on the stock cap. You can clear the check engine light with any OBD scanner or Bluetooth + a phone app like OBD Fusion or Torque.

    That said, there will still be a permanent code stored if you were to get emissions testing - this is to prevent non-compliant vehicles from just clearing the code before emissions testing.

    In my case it took a solid week or more of driving and several EVAP cycles before the permanent code was cleared

    I have a Carquest 10504 gas cap. I believe it is a rebranded Stant. No CEL in about 2 years of use. Here is another thread on the topic.

    Post #74 is a picture of my gas cap and box. I work near a high school and am more concerned about keeping funny stuff out of my tank.

    Kinda off topic, but a good warning to consider. Once, a locking gas cap = a drilled gas tank for me. Never again will I put a locking cap on my truck.

    Instead of a locking cap, I put a magnet on the back of one of these and stick it on the side of my truck at night- tells me if someone is walking near my truck by paging in my bedroom- the red light on it also probably makes people keep on walking too:
