This light came on in my dash this morning as soon as I started the truck. I am near needing the first service appt and I know there is a light to remind you but I didn't think it threw on the check engine light. Can anyone weigh in?

There are a variety of end user OBD2 readers available. My father in law bought me a FIXD bluetooth reader that works with my phone. They tell you pretty quick what triggered the code. Could be gas cap, could be misfire, could be many things. They are a sound investment if you own cars, especially out of warranty cars.

The maintenance one will light the triangle with an exclamation point in it and a warning box will say "maintenance needed". This happens the SECOND you hit 5000 miles. Mine just did it two days ago.

The TPMS is on because I haven't synced the new sensors to the truck yet. I think I might have found it, my gas cap was not tightened all the way. It hasn't gone off yet but that seems like a likely possibility

Yeah, that's what I thought. This is my second 3rd gen, I put 25k miles on the first one. I'm pretty sure it was the gas cap, it wasn't tightened enough to reach the click. Fixed that, so now I'm hoping it goes off after a couple starts and some driving

I think your right...if the gas cap is loose it will throw a check engine light. 1 click only on the gas cap.

You should be able to just cycle the key (no start needed) for it to clear if you fixed the issue. However, it may still be a good idea to visit your closest parts store/dealership to get the code. If it's something more serious, I wouldn't wait.

That's odd, maybe they changed it for 2018. My truck just started showing me that screen briefly yesterday and I am about 500 - 600 miles away from my next service.

Um, what note is there for " *10 " on that page?

It seems like some people on here are thinking that the maintenance reminder can't be shut off for good. I haven't had any set up in my head unit since I bought my truck, so that amber triangle never comes on.

Maybe I am misunderstanding this conversation though... :notsure:

    D8B38CB7-0D00-4E72-B200-231205908547.jpg

Edit: If any of these icons are orange, there's a maintenance item set up. There's also an option to delete all.
My truck doesn't see the dealer at intervals less than 10K miles, and I've never seen the reminder light.

My 2017 gives the heads up also. I guess some haven't noticed it.

A new radio head unit can run dash command on the screen and give all engine info and codes. It's great.

Very likely that's the culprit and it will take a day or 2 for the code to clear itself. you can't even clear that "permanent" code with a battery reset or a scan tool b/c it's emissions related (and thus is hard to tamper with for emissions testing) but you can clear the light but a record of the issue will remain until several evap cycles have been completed.

had the same thing happen when I tried a locking gas cap that didn't seal well and the evap test failed overnight. took a few days to clear itself
