It's 10pm, an hour outside of Columbus Ohio, I'm driving my gen 1 from NJ to SoCal trying to make good time and my check engine light just came on. My handy dandy Bluetooth OBD2 scanner is in my other truck in Cali, all the auto part stores are closed, and the Pilot I stopped at doesn't have anything to pull codes with... Anyone got a work around for me?

A flashing CEL while it's running is an indication of a catalyst damaging misfire. Otherwise, it may cause reduced economy and efficiency, but not damaging. Unless you feel a change in driveability.

Not flashing, just constant light. It's got a high idle after being in storage for a year. I suspect the intake air sensor, or one of the other atmospheric sensors. Just really don't want to blow up my truck in the middle of nowhere if it ends up being something more important.

Your in Ohio hardly the middle of no where.

By now you either kept driving or stopped to check things out in the morning.

Just curious on a trip this long how you left your scanner at home??

At least most all the serious codes shut off the fuel.

Sometimes I so miss the simple days before computer controlled vehicles .

    Best of luck!!

Compared to the LA Orange County area anything in my beloved Heartland feels like the middle of nowhere. And considering that this Jen wants, the most reliable vehicle I ever had, and my friend whose house I was starting at didn't tell me that there is a high idle issue when he started up the day before I came out, I didn't even think to bring my scanner which I leave permanently plugged into my Gen 2. I know that's no excuse, I should have been better prepared, but Tacomas don't exactly Inspire and paranoid attitude like a Chevy or a Ford.
