I have a 2014 4cyl with 14,200 miles on it. This morning on start up the engine light came on for a few seconds. Is this a reminder to change oil or something else ?

The Engine light should always come on upon start up. If it stays on, there is an issue.

Was it the check engine light or the maintenance required light? If it was the maintenance required, then its an oil change reminder.

But like he said^^^^^ they should come on for a bit on start up. Th maintenance required will flash a few extra times when you're near oil change, then stay on steady after so many miles.

    Bunch of stuff
Just for those of you who don't know, most dealerships set the maintenance light for oil change about every 4,600 miles instead of 5,000. Just in case you think it is coming on earlier than you think it's supposed to.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Those lights just come on at startup so you know they are all working. They should all go off after a few seconds.

Just to let you know we cannot set the maint light at 4600 miles.
    :annoyed:
I don't know where all this stuff comes from.

It's set from the factory and is not changeable.
It starts to flash for a few seconds about 500 miles before your oil chance time to let you know it's coming due. At the 5000 mile time it will come on solid.

It is the maintenance required light, I should have specified that.

So I guess its time to change the oil.

    Thank you

Always a good idea to read the manual.

If it stays on it's due for maintenance, if it flashes for a few seconds and then shuts off it's giving a heads up you're almost ready for maintenance.
