    Hi,

Just picked up my 2015 TRD double cab last week and check engine light came on. I have an appointment set with the dealer later this week but was wondering if anyone else has had this code on a new Taco P0333?

Most things I've read say it's knock sensor that might have been chewed... definatly hasn't been chewed, any other suggestions before it goes in?

    Thanks

So the dealer called, and like some of the other thread on here as well as blacktaco2042, they say something chewed threw the wires of the knock sensor.. I had 2 options, not overly happy with either, 1) have to replace the wiring harness for $2500 + tax and labour (Canadian) which is not covered under warranty because of the mouse or whatever (insurance might cover but it would be in for awhile) 2) they offered to repair the wire (solder and shrink wrap, then put wire foil around the harness to prevent it from happening again) for $265 + tax but there will be no warranty with this work. I went with option 2 for now and will talk to insurance this week incase it does happen again.... fuck me this sucks, only 434 miles on the truck

I wouldn't solder and tape it. Try insurance and traps.

No idea but just let them fix it. I had to replace my head unit on my radio and my TPMS computer sensor went bad 1 hour after I drove it brand new off the lot. Things like this just happen from time to time but ever since then trucks driving like a champ!! :D

That is rough. :( If insurance will pay for it that is the route you should go. Perhaps the dealer will give you a loaner while the work is being done.

"Eco-friendly," soy-based wiring insulation is the culprit. A farmer who has property adjacent to ours had to replace two wiring harnesses in less than a year in his new GM pickup due to munching mice. My sister had the same thing happen with wood rats eating the wiring in her new Ford 250 super duty. I don't know if there is a rodent repellent that would work on wiring or not.

Ya I did some searching arond and found that Toyota is leading the way in terms of changing to this eco-friendly organic (pet food) wire insulation/plastic coating. Other auto makers have this issue as well but it appears that Toyota and Honda are the ones with the most issues.

So the dealer charged me $300 for their fix... they spliced in 2 new wires (i thought before the would be soldering them, not the case since the knock sensor requires specific current i guess), they sent me pics of the damage which I will try and post tonight if anyone wants to take a look.

All in all, for me, I feel very dissapointed in Toyota for not addressing this known issue. I work for the Toyota plant in Canada and I do take pride in how I build their cars. They should as well.

Thats for all you comments and interest

YUP; happened to me; parked too close to a woody area and chilly mice moved into my old Saturn and chewed up the spark plug wires! (remember those?) It was an easy fix though..
All sensors connected to the engine have to have special wire/connections/connectors as the heat of the engine will travel up the wire to the harness.
This should be covered by your insurance; you'll be stuck with whatever deductable but go for the harness fix to maintain your warranty and truck safety.
Suggestion; get an old (or new??) pair of panty hose or something similar; put a few REAL moth balls or moth ice in one leg, cut it off into something managable... ; find a place under the hood and attach it with a couple wire ties, maybe to the firewall.. The stink will keep them out and when the car moves it'll air out so you don't smell it. [The moth stuff MUST the the original stuff that really stinks]\
    Then Traps/Traps/Traps...

My question to the dealer would be, how do you know the mouse came from my house??? Maybe the truck sat at the port and it happened there...call customer service and demand a warranty repair!!
