Had my check engine light coming on and off for about the last 6 months and when it comes on my idle/running rpm becomes erratic. Hooked up my OBD code reader today and got nothing but an 'error'. I've pulled a LOT of codes with this reader over the past 6 years on many vehicles with no issues until now.....

    Anyone?

I have the same problem, I think. My CEL is always going on and off, and it seems to be triggered by a random dip in the RPM while idling at a light or a lot of low RPM work, off-road or just backing down my driveway. I don't think its a problem with the MAF since I just cleaned mine two weeks ago and the CEL came on a couple days ago. Whenever I pull the code it says P0120, which is the throttle sensor, right? Mine seems to be working properly, though. I am at a loss, its been a constant for the 4 years I have had my truck.

Flashing check engine light. Shakeing while driving. Sputtering at idle.
Hey I have a 2000 prerunner v6. 140000 miles. Just this morning started to shake real bad off and on while driving. Feels like driving over reflector bumps in middle of the road. When it shakes the check engine light will flash rapidly then stop. At idle it sputters and sounds more like a little boat engine to me. Had all spark plugs replaced about 3 weeks ago. Any ideas? PleaSe help

They need to be dual ground electrodes.

Before I replaced them I pulled out the old ones and they were the same single prongs I bought. I'll switch them again tho. Thanks

    Hi
Had exactly the same thing happen to me. Thought it was my transmission. Brought it to my toyota dealer and after a closed door session, the foreman comes back and says the transmission is ok but I needed plugs, wires, motor and transmission mounts and.....brace yourself......new leafsprings!! For ONLY $3,000 dollars I could have all this done! This a lesson for anyone reading.....if the hairs start to rise on the back of your neck... run!
I brought the quote to my small town mechanic and he was wondering what they were smoking. I left my truck with him and he had to send it to another guy to tinker because the code reader wasn't telling them anything(other than it was missing).
In the end it was the crankshaft position sensor. $445 plus tax.
I went back to the Toyota manager and had an unfriendly chit chat.....
