Aloha! My check engine light is constantly on. I went to the dealers and they told me it was O2 sensor. When I asked them what that was, they said my catalytic converter is failing. This would big a out off pocket expense. Is this true for Tacoma trucks with 143k? A less expense remedy would be appreciated.

I'm having this same problem right now, with similar mileage. Did they say it was a P0420 code? If it is, all my research has found it could be a dozen different things. From something as inexpensive as a new gas cap to needing a new catalytic converter. I've tried a bunch of things and looked at live data on an OBD II scan tool. It's looking like cat may be bad.

I would not trust the dealer or just replace the sensors. I replaced the upstream one years ago and it fixed the problem, this time it did not work. Get a scan tool tool and look at the live data of your sensors. If it shows they aren't working then I'd replace them, otherwise I'd look elsewhere for the problem.

I'm having similar issues. I already tried replacing sensor, manifold, and repair a crack I had. Still nothing, but on my taco I'm getting no reading on my upstream.

I'd suggest check that out. That's what imma be doing for mine.
