So the wife has a 2018 4runner SR5 Premium and not really looking to trade. However, we were out and about this weekend and stopped by a dealership just to browse and of course, one of the salesmen came sprinting out. We talked some and he got my cell number (i know, bad idea lol) Long story short he's dying to make a deal by today.

My question is how good of a deal are we looking at here. I know Toyota is offering $1000 cash back on 4runners through today.

    Here's the details.

    2021 4runner TRD Premium
    MSRP: $43,881
    Trade-In: $31,500 Payoff- $19,800 Difference: $11,700
Tax, Tag, Title: Probably around $1100
    OTD Price: $29000

So if my math is right that's around 9.5% off MSRP. Not really earth shattering..... Payments drop but adding another 2 years to payments doesn't give me a warm fuzzy.

Sounds like you would be a good candidate to lease instead of buy (unless you are mod heavy).

    I say do it!

So what are you getting for all this extra money you'd be paying out?

End of month, end of year, lean sales..........sure the salesman is eager.

on the other hand. If your numbers are right....you will increase your debt by about $9200.

It actually ended up being the same salesman I bought my Taco from back in March lol. That deal was nearly 14% off MSRP. I felt pretty good driving off the lot that day. I know those days are long gone.

Push to start, rear locker, bigger infotainment screen, additional warranty, and she really liked the TRD leather seats

I think your math is a little off...

$45k for the new rig and fees
    $12k trade in allowance
    Net $33k out the door.

Are you saying they're dropping down to $29k from there?

And that salesman is probably feeling so giddy...hook, line, and sinker on some "just browser's". If you were a fish, the reel would be screaming ZZZZZZZ ZZZZZZZZZZ ZZZZZZ!!

Pretty big Meh for me. If the existing vehicle was a pain in the rear for some reason, then maybe, but if you've already got a reliable one then none of the new whizbangs are really that exciting.

You've got a 2018. Is the '18 hanging by a thread? Sounds like you're getting sidetracked by a new shiny toy.

It's a decent deal, 10% off MSRP right now is a decent deal. But, you're buying a deal. Buy the vehicle, not the deal. Sounds like you don't need a new vehicle.

edit to add: Push to start is meh. I have it, I'm fine either way. Rear locker, if you use it, go for it. Otherwise, meh. I've used mine twice now for an actual "need" (I probably would have been fine without it one of those times, too).

    Leather seats:
    https://katzkin.com/choose-your-design/
And others, you can probably do that for less than 500 bucks easy. Sounds like a lot less than taxes.

Bigger infotainment screen: Aftermarket, another 500 at the most.

So for a grand you get all you want. Plus additional warranty on probably one of the more reliable vehicles toyota makes?

Spend the money on seat covers and a nice bottle of wine or whisky. Whichever you prefer.
