Interesting. I don't know whether to believe you or think your screwing with me. But, I'd try it. No way it could any worse than bad goose. Some people love it, worst meat under the sun in my opinion. Of course I've never eaten skunk.

I give a shit. Yes, the buffalo were going to die too. Was that justification for slaughtering them? NO. I hope there was some sort of justification for killing this animal. Sport isn't one IMO.

People die to. Does that justify murder?

Yes, some people like nature. That's actually the reason I have a 4x4, to go out and get places in nature where I can enjoy, not destroy.

I am glad to hear that it was under a permitted system.

Lions aren't rare for those of you that think hunting one is going to put them on the endangered species list, they are just really smart and sneaky. Here is a few cool pics I got a couple weeks ago..... let me apologize in advance for all the tree huggers that look at this.....

The buffalo did get a raw deal. It's a tragedy when something like that happens. Conservation is important. When a species is gone its gone, and that's never a good thing. It's important for us hunters to protect our game as well as enjoying hunting it.

now on a real note.. people kill animals to eat ( most do) the ones that dont eat what they kill shouldnt kill.

yeah people die but do we kill people and eat them? no. so they are completely different.

Using dogs to hunt is only "sporting" if you are shooting a moving target. Treeing a rare predator and then casually executing it is pretty lame.

How close did you get to take these? Very impressive. No tree huger here, I just think we do have responsibilities as hunters. We're encouraged in NC to shoot coyotes on site, being that they have become a problem. I shoot them, but I'm certainly not going to eat them. Maybe this is hypocritical, maybe its not. But they eat calves and chickens, and that costs money.

Scott, was it you that showed the AZG&F waterhole camera pics of the Mt. lions in the White tanks?

The White Tank mountians are circled by suburbs and as skittish as these cats are I was shocked they were living there.

Humans remove habitat and if the animals are not (managed) we have situations like you have seen with starving animals preying on humans as we move further out into their areas.
The growth will not stop so the only answer is managing animal population because we cannot seem to manage the people population.

    Simple as that.

agreed, just making an extreme point, to counter his extreme point. because things die is not a reason to kill them....

i don't have a problem with people hunting to eat... i do have a probably with people hunting animals for sport (especially rarer animals like mountain lions, bear, etc). That was a full grown, beautiful animal that is now slaughtered...

^ Agreed. IMO this is responsible management.

Everybody criticizing the Mt Lion hunt needs to get down off of their stupid high horse.

I don't hunt myself, mostly because I'd rather spend an hour at the range shooting several dozen clays that will definitely be there than spend all morning tracking a wild animal that may not, but

Modern conservation cannot be at all compared to slaughtering buffalo from trains 200 years ago. The fish and wildlife services use hunters as part of conservation just like anything else, issuing tags to keep deer and other animals in check.

In fact, my understanding was that a lot of bear, mountain lion, and other animals that had been mostly hunted out in the west have been reintroduced in the last couple of decades slowly, and the populations are doing great. So now there is a surplus that needs to be hunted.

In any event, this stuff is now all carefully monitored. Hunting a mountain lion that you have a tag for is far from hurting anything.
