Got the sensor replaced and put back together. Used a pick to scrap a line on the shaft/nut/steering wheel (doing the nut is pointless unless you don’t have a torque wrench I guess). The sharpie and paint were just in case but the picked line was the only thing I focused on. I did notice when I removed the clockspring/sensor that the bottom of the sensor had leakage, I’m assuming came from a component on the circuit board inside.

First startup, the error messages didn’t come on (stability, radar, headlights) and all lights disappeared (slip, radar, warning). Expensive for a drained battery (my fault for leaving the frig on over the weekend of non use) but definitely feel like I shouldn’t have to be concerned with either the battery going dead or jumping it off (I used a noco portable, which I might not use anymore and go back old school w/ jumper cables) causing electronic component failure.

Thank you for this thread! My daughter borrowed my truck and somehow managed to leave the off-road lights on. Drained the battery and fried the “Steering Angle Sensor”. As a result, my dashboard look like the Space Shuttle on re-entry right before it burned up… Took it to the dealer and, yup... it was about $1200 to fix. So I bought the OEM part which was $459 and replaced it myself. Had to dismantle the steering column, but all-in-all a pretty easy fix. Took about 45 minutes. I got the sensor switched out and it fixed the problem!!!!

    Thanks again everyone!

Here are a couple of videos that helped with the removal steering wheel and the installation of the new sensor:
