anybody know how to check the actual sensor itself to see if it's good? I have done visual and inspected wiring. Can't get the abs light to go off and it's says back left wheel sensor per a friend that read a code.

Get a higher end obd2 reader that lets you view active data, select all four wheel speed sensors and while driving in a parking lot(you should only need to go up to 5 mph) see which one reads differently then the other three. double check the harness for that one isnt cut. assuming the harness is fine, replace that sensor.

Or just buy this, install it and see if the ABS light goes away. I used the info you listed about your truck but you might want to double check its the correct one. you can probably get it cheaper from @RockAuto but I like napa, nothing against rockauto to be clear.

I ordered the wheel sensor today and will throw the dice. Problem is I have exhausted all of the ways I know to make the light go out. If this doesn't work it is off to the dealership where I will be ripped a new one. Rick

You could always go to a independent shop if you dont want to go to the dealer. That is assuming the new sensor doesnt fix it.

Thanks guys. I wish I would have purchased the ebay wheel sensor just to see if that works. I have already ordered one for a dealership being sent here. Looks like sandman was nice enough to post how to check harness and connectors. Thanks again for all the replys

Got the new wheel sensor in today courtesy of camelback Toyota. After switching them out drove down the road and abs and brake light went out. Thanks Rick

Start with the post sandman put up with a voltmeter. This will tell you if your connections and wiring are good. I never could find a way to test the actual wheel sensor and really threw the dice on buying one. I usually will not replace a part unless I know the part is defective but got lucky on this. If they all check out than it may be the aftermarket sensor you replaced. Can you swap it out with a rear wheel sensor and see if it throws the code to the rear. That would isolate the problem to the wheel sensor being bad. Rick

I guess you could jack up the truck(make sure vehicle can't roll, put it in Neutral, disconnect the sensor and check for the pulses.

Sandman all I had was a voltmeter and I could not get it to read any voltage. I jacked up the rear and had my wife to put it in drive disconnected the connector over the rearend which has both the right and left rear going to it. Like the article states you should read AC voltage but I couldn't and I know my passenger rear speed sensor was good. Head scratcher for sure and I had put over 5 hours into tracing wires. Your diagram would have helped for sure on the wire and connectors. The AC voltage NOT showing up has me puzzled.

The diagram shows amperage(mA), but to have amperage you would need to have voltage, so yea I'm not sure.

Uh, hey Sandman, could you please tell us where the "harness side connector" for the skid control ECU ... is located? I'm working on a 2009 Taco extended cab 4x4 with V6. Might it be below the obd connector under the dashboard, behind the plastic shroud?
