EDIT 12/26 I seriously have no idea why mine STILL leaks on the Passenger's side only. This is now the 3rd housing to do it.

So, this is the second passenger's side tag light I've had on my truck, and it's also filling with water.

First one was replaced under warranty, gonna have to take this second one in too now. I'm hoping I just got unlucky twice in a row with the seal on the housings, and it's not something like a clogged drain. I know of one other person here on TW who had the same issue, and these housings are apparently way the hell back ordered 'cause it took mine a few weeks to come in.

Worth checking because if your plate bulb fries out on you, it's just another excuse to get pulled over.

Dealership definitely doesn't call this one a "characteristic" so I think this it should be one of the less heartache-inducing warranty claims.

I've had water in my driver's side light for a while now. I went to the dealer today for my 10k service, they tried to tell me that installing an aftermarket hitch was the cause. Before he could finish his story which I'm sure was going to end with them not covering it, I politely informed him that it had been this way since before my 5k service and I just installed the hitch a month or so ago. They're ordering the part.

I've read a few complaints about this happening. I'm just waiting for someone to inevitably rear end me on my new work commute so I have a reason to buy an aftermarket bumper :p

I know a guy that will handle that. Then you can buy the rear bumper we'll have out shortly for the 3rd gen.

First post here. Mine also is filling with water. I am going Wednesday for my 10k service , license light issue , and transmission tsb reflash. Has anyone else noticed the rear door belt moldings coming up in the centers? They can be pulled right off. I am nervous about them blowing off while driving

    Update!

Got a new license plate light put in today. I had the dealer spray some water on it before I left, and it appears to seal properly now.

According to the service manager, the seal appears to have been redesigned.

    AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

:censored: thing started leaking again, for the 3rd time!:frusty:

This time I wasn't taking any shit, I got under the truck and pulled the assembly myself to inspect. That was a bitch of a job in itself and my hands are all scraped to shit now.

Anyways the seal around the light, no problem. Seal around the bulb, also no problem. Dunked the thing most of the way underwater to check.

The second you get the water above the bulb connector itself, bubbles. So it's somehow leaking in through behind the bulb.

I dunno what to do at this point. Could it be water running along the harness wires? I kinda doubt that, it seemed to seal really well...

I guess I can just keep taking it back to the dealership until they get tired of buying me new lights.:annoyed:

Apply the silicone around the black flange(s) and insert in back into the bumper.

It was already slathered with silicone grease. Around the lens (which wasn't the leak), around the bulb seal (which wasn't the leak) and even inside of the connector (which WAS the leak) but it didn't seem to help. This time it took the longest for the leak to reoccur, but it still did.

I'm gonna take it to a different dealer tomorrow and see what they say. The whole assembly is $20 including a new bulb and everything but holy shit is this annoying.

Make the dealer keep fixing it. I wouldn't solve their problem for them.

Not sure what you mean here. Do you mean the moulding on the outside of the door? Are the loose? There have been a few issues of the moulding not seated properly, but not a big issue to be replaced or fixed.

    Welcome to TW.

Mine don't leak either, and if you want rain, move to the Pacific Northwest. Nobody knows rain like us here.

Does water get blown up in there normally when driving ? I don't see how but maybe it is.
Are you getting under carriage car washes ?
When did you get vehicle ? Wondering if/when it was really redesigned.

Leaking occurs at random. Could be triggered by rain, by washing, etc.

I did get an undercarriage wash recently but previous to that I had a friggin power washer blasting mud off the bottom of the truck. Didn't leak then, so I figured I was golden.

Bought the vehicle in May 2016, dealer service guy said it was "redesigned" in September 2016, on my 3rd housing.

At some point repeated trips to the dealer for something you can fix in 5 minutes isn't worth it.
