I read the thread title so of course I had to check when I went out to my truck earlier. Doors still lock/unlock perfectly w/ the key. :101010:

I like the feature on my 2014 where if you use the remote FOB to unlock the truck, it will re-lock the truck automatically if no door is opened within 30 seconds. I had the truck for about a year before I discovered this feature.

I also rotate the two keys about every six months. I almost never use the key in the door to unlock the truck. When it takes more than one try to unlock the doors with the remote, or you have to be right near the door for it to work, I swap a new battery into the remote and it cures it every time.

I have a valet key hidden because my doors lock automatically after about 45 seconds. The key will do everything except start the engine.

After I locked keys in this truck, had a $3. no chip key cut and hid it on truck to always have something to unlock door!

That sounds like an absolute great idea.
I had a hidden key under my 1977 Chevy van for exactly this reason.
More than once, I wound up with the engine running and locked doors.

I carry a spare key in my wallet for my 1991 truck, as it is thin.
If I can get a fob-less key of similar thinness cut, I could keep that in my wallet.

I don't remember the explanation for this phenomenon, but it works. Try holding your key against the underside of your chin as you press the button on your remote and aim it at the truck. This trick will increase the range of your remote. No joke.

I recently had an unchipped key cut for my Tacoma just to open the door in case of an emergency. I noticed that the key turns the ignition fine (and not start of course), but has a difficult time turning in the door lock core. Maybe the tolerances in the ignition are more forgiving? Otherwise, I agree that it's good to check your daily key. Thanks @TnShooter

I have a non chip key in my wallet. I can run the truck with the non chipped key in the ignition if I use the remote start.

You would think a modern vehicle this wouldn’t happen. My 2015 ford will lock the doors if I jump out & close the door. So I always make sure to put a window down first.

I got rid of the fob when I got my 2007. Just too bulky.

I always make copies and use those daily. When they start to wear out after 12-15 years, I make a couple more copies from the originals and use those. Always keep a fresh original key for copying. Too many times I see people with just one original key and when it wears down they have nothing to go on.

I can confirm this really works. My co-workers would play this game starting their vehicles in the winter to see who's had the longest range. I would usually win until they noticed I would hold the key on my forehead when I pushed the button. Then they kicked me out of the club. Babies.

I learned this trick from my alarm installer. I think it turns your body into an antenna.
