I'll be 60 this month, so I still read the paper & watch network news. In those 60 years I've never, repeat NEVER, heard of a child getting contaminated Halloween treats that didn't put it there themselves to get attention (other than the Texas candy man).
My parents didn't check my Halloween candy, popcorn balls or loose candy corn. I never checked my children's Halloween candy and I don't check my grand children's candy (other than looking for Snickers for me) either.
If believing internet bullshit makes you feel safer, great.

I'm 99% sure the entire checking candy thing is a conspiracy by parents to steal their children's candy.

I understand it won't hurt you...that's not the point. There are regulations on how much 'extra stuff' and/or 'types of stuff' that's allowed to be in our food or else it can't be legally sold.

If you buy a steak from the store, you get it home and cut it open and there are bugs inside it(for whatever reason)..You're not gonna eat it. (well, most people wouldn't eat it).

Everything you consume in your daily life, you ARE looking at it before you put it in your mouth. If it doesn't look right...your common sense makes a decision to eat it or not.

Children do not know how to determine whats OK and what's not OK. They don't have the common sense to make their own decisions. Regardless if the candy or food comes directly from the local grocery store or a stranger,

Think of it this way.... When your children were young babies. They wanted to put EVERTYTHING in their mouths. As a parent - you prevented them from putting harmful things in their mouths. But now - you'll allow them to eat the candy they get from strangers without inspecting it first?

Tbh I think if your kids are old enough to be opening and eating candy on their own they have enough common sense to not eat candy that looks suspicious.

Wrong. My 2yo is perfectly capable of opening his own candy. But sure as hell wouldn't look at it first or know that it doesn't look right and not eat it. Just saying.

LOL. Only the ones that are loosely based on a historical event that may or may not have happened, that include lots of nudity and violence.

Never. I was just saying he's capable of opening it on his own. So someone who can open it themselves, doesn't mean they have enough sense to know if its good or bad. Which was your point.

Edit: My bad, I read your comment wrong. I thought you said if they could open it. Not that they are old enough to be on their own.

My point is, this was a urban legend when I was a kid and it still is. Yes you hear about this on the news or in the paper but, it always turns out to be false. So if checking your child's Halloween candy makes you feel better do it. Checking Halloween candy, like changing your oil early or letting your truck warm up or buying a battery with a colored top all are unnecessary.

SELBYVILLE, Del. -- Authorities say a 4-year-old girl in Delaware passed out packets of heroin she found in her mother's backpack to her day care mates, thinking they contained candy.

The pack contained 249 bags of heroin weighing 3.7 grams.

Oh yeah no one was poisoned just read the entire news, I heard it on the radio some days ago.

Day care providers at the Hickory Tree Child Care Center in Selbyville called police when they noticed some children with the bags. None had been opened, reports CBS Philly.
