Be sure to check your oil more frequently because turbocharged engines consume more oil than naturally aspirated engines. Mine was a little below the full mark on the dipstick with 1,000 miles on the odometer. I topped it off when it was brand new.

A modern turbo motor should not consume oil.

Some recommend entirely changing your oil at the 1k mark due to the break in period. Hard to truly gauge anything at that time.

Your oil consumption should settle down since it was breaking in but overall yes, theoretically boosted engines will burn a little more oil. Especially if you idle lots.

Why would the engine burn more oil of the truck idles a lot?

My TT Tundra doesn't consume any oil at all, I haven't had to add a drop through 18,000 miles on the odo (only going 5k on a change)... however, the main bearings may fail at any moment.

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
If it’s be pushed hard the turbos will burn more oil. But normal use after break in oil should t be consumed faster than n/a

i had a brand new Ford 3.5L Ecoboost work truck and it would consume more than 1 quart of oil between oil changes.

I don't know why I ended up here but where is that road?

Just looks similar to a road I took when I kipped up somewhere a little east of Tuscon.

The turbo is lubricated by engine oil and the seals of the turbo that keep the oil in the bearings of the turbo and out of he intake and exhaust work best when the engine is under boost. Idling the engine doesn't put enough pressure on the seals for them to work well so they'll wear out faster from extensive idling.

It's good to hammer down on any engine every now and then but with turbo engines I'd say it's almost compulsory to walk on the gas pedal atleast once a week and not drive like grandma all the time. Also though after driving hard a guy should putt around for a few minutes or let the engine idle for a minute or two afterwards so the turbo can cool with oil (and possibly coolant) flow before shutting off the engine.

We're presently in the process at my job of switching back to gas job service trucks because the diesels burn so much oil... my field truck isn't too bad, burns about a quart a week... our shop truck burns about 4.5 quarts a week and smokes heavy blue at this point. Especially when it idles for a bit then you take off. Both have around 60'000kms (37'000MI) and are 2019 & 2022 Powerstrokes that were bought new.

I thought the point of the thinner oil was easier passage through the turbo and thus better lubrication.

The point of thinner oil is to increase mpg.
