check your U-bolts!!

so my truck is a 2014 and not even a year old, was installing my lift today and when i got to the back to take off the U-bolts they where only a hair past hand tight.

thats not good!!!

they should be in the 70+lbs torque range

never had any issues but in glad i was under there to find out.

GUYS CHECK YOUR U-BOLTS!!!

this really didnt need a thread but wanted people to be aware of this.
this is the second thing i found that wasnt done right at the factory.

i dont blame toyota, i blame American workers that put it together!!!

 

What if the truck was hecho en Mexico? Will I have tight U bolts then?

FYI factory torque spec for those 4 bolts are 37 foot pounds.

Yes Toyota engineering intentionally sets them to that spec. it has been argued numerous times that this is too low, but fact
remains, 37 is the engineering specification. pay your loot to techinfo.toyota.com and find out for yourself.

37 can feel like a 'hair past hand tight' with a long wrench on them

go ahead and tighten them but know they are set to 37 at factory for engineering reasons...not worth discussing or arguing but the manual says 37 foot lbs. period. it is not a mistake.

If you get the 15-25mph vibe leaf spring TSB done the new spec is set to 44 foot lbs.

 

buzz wrong.read thread link above and also the AAl i installed was deaver and it had torque specs on it and was in the 70+ lbs range as well.
all deaver makes is leaf springs and im sure they know how to install them.

on a side note the truck was much tighter in the rear from before

and i was pointing out that a company that makes leaf springs and parts states right on there parts what torque specs to use on what size u-bolts.
some where as high as 200lbs of torque on larger u bolts

i also looked up other trucks specs and they are around the same 70+ lbs of torque so i was saying he is wrong with his info

 

If they did misprint, they misprinted 2 different torque specs at 2 different points in time.

so why would toyota only use 37lbs of torque and ford,dodge,nissan and chevy uses 70+lbs of torque and a manufacture of leaf springs(deaver) also says use 70+lbs of torque and higher for U-bolts?

did the japs figure out something that everyone else didnt?

unless i bumped my head this morning what im reading from this is like saying just cause its on the internet it must be true?

quick goggle says 1/2 grade 5 u-bolts are around 65 to 70lbs of torque

I torque mine ubolts 80 on one side and 23 on the other and now my lean is gone

 

Lol... I'll second the "what part of this isn't clear?" Toyota sets them at 37 and 44. Google search all you want but in the end that is the Toyota spec. Don't like? Set yours for 70 and call it a day but quit arguing about it. You're wrong and seem to just want to argue for the sake of arguing.

 

im not trying to piss in the wind, i was pointing out that its not enough torque and it needs to be addressed.

i didnt make this thread to look cool,wanted to bring info out to us tacoma owners that something is wrong.

like most of you that are 40+yrs old and working on cars all you life (hobby)would tell you to do that same.

and so it doesnt come from me i'll email toytech,wheelers and others to get there insite
