Greased my drive shafts all five zerks. There did not appear to be any grease inside them, grease pumped in easily a dozen or so pumps until resistance was met and grease started coming out where it was going in. I had a little bit of a shudder on hard launches that appears to be gone now. First time it was done since new and now at 49k miles I wish I had done it sooner, like at every oil change...

I greased mine today, well 3 of the 5, I didn't have time to remove the shield to get to the front two, but I'll do that tomorrow. So my shaft is only partially greased.

For the ones I did grease, 8 to 9 slow pumps and finally a purge. Truck feels a lot better now.

"Toyota....moving forward" ..........provided you have a transmission 3/4 of a quart low on fluid and no grease on your shaft :)

Greased mine yesterday. They took between 3 and 5 pumps before purging. Rear shaft joints purged regular (dark) colored grease, fronts purged red grease.

My truck is a 2015 with ~7,000 miles and they were pretty much bone dry. What little grease that purged out was jet black and smelled horrible. Glad I checked.

You guys with a lot of miles on your trucks, I wouldn't be blaming the factory if they take a little grease.

I greased mine at 800 miles. It now has about 2800 but decided to check them while it was on the rack. All 5 took several pump

750mi on mine. Checked them this evening after reading this thread. All of them needed 5 to 7 pumps with the grease gun.

I think there was a guy earlier in the thread who said it happened to him. I can't verify it, and his experience seems to be an anomaly so far.

Did mine today. About 3 pumps for the first 4, but the one on the rear end took about 6. Thanks again to the OP for keeping our trucks running smooth.

I have some Red Line synthetic CV-2 extreme pressure grease. Back label says it is NLGI No. 2, but I don't see the words lithium base in the listing/description. Dunno, perhaps lithium is the synthetic part. Any ideas on whether the CV-2 will be OK to use?

Anybody have recommendations for colder temp grease? The stuff I used is good to 0 F but I will need something that will go colder by next winter.

I did mine on Saturday. Only 255 miles on the truck; all 5 took three pumps. I managed to get the fitting on the one that was challenging without pulling the shield. I will check them again at about 1K miles then every 5K. It is nice to have greaseable u-joints IMHO, I do not really care for the sealed units. I also noticed that these do not use the nylon injected "rings" (not sure the proper term, but I hated changing them out) to hold them in like GM does (and maybe others). This is my first Toyota so this is likely not news to others on here.
On the upside my u-bolts were torqued to >75ft-lb so all is good there.
Still learning all the features as I am coming from a '98, much has changed in 18 years.

I have already taken mine in for my 5000 service. Informed the shop foreman to make sure my u joints were greased. He stated that they were sealed so didnt need greasing. Looks like he didnt know what he is talking about.

Did you say anything more? Like, why are there grease fittings on these parts
that need no grease and are "sealed"?

I've started asking them to bet a left nut in these kind of situations. Makes them stop and think...
