Wow, didn't realize that! I always do mine every oil change which is typically 6-7k. At which point, it takes probably 4-5 pumps to get grease to come out and another two or so beyond that for the grease to look fresh. Wouldn't want to go 15k!

I do the front less often, though--basically just at the beginning and end of winter since that's when I use 4WD most. The second one is a little annoying to get to because of having to take off the shield.

Just got under there and did mine. Truck has 110 miles on it, the front 2 only took about 4 or 5 pumps each. The back three took about 10-12 pumps each. I did remove the heat shield, took all of one minute and made the job easy with my little non flex gun.

I have 20 miles and my rears took 10-12 for those and I ran out of grease, so I didn't do the front yet.

40 miles on mine each zero took 6 or 7. The rear 3 had black grease and the front 2 had reddish grease. Is it normal for the seal closest to the zerk to purge more grease than the other 3?

As long as it comes out all 4 your good. Yes some times some take grease better than others.

Wipe it off and look for seal damage. If it looks good, next time push the shaft toward that cup and see if that helps. As long as it had enough resistance to push grease to the other 3 that's all that matters.

@splitbolt if only you had thought to put a paypal donate link on this and the u-bolt thread, you probably would have taken home a good bit of cash for the advice.

    Much appreciated.

50$ for peace of mind. He probably saved a ton of trucks

Now onto the transmission checks to see if I'm low.

My dealer called me today because I gave them 7 out of 10 on the survey I received, based on the service department refusing to check this, the trans and diff. They weren't happy with me at all and said they never get less than 100%. Well, I don't know if I believe that, but oh well.

3 things they didn't want to check, -3 points. duh.

Did they offer to make it right or did they just bitch about their 7? Because I've never heard of anyone following up on a low service score and not offering to fix it.

Call Toyota and tell them you want to revise it to a 6.

They really didn't say anything, just that they had been dealing with Toyota all day about the survey....I'm going to drive it some more and let the dust settle, then do something.

I just picked mine up Saturday. I guess I know what I'm doing after work tomorrow.
    Thanks for the info!
I just got out of a Ram truck and the last thing I want to do is have my new one that had 4 miles on it go in the shop down the road for something that I could have prevented.
