I had been reading all of the posts on the new 3rd gen while I waited for mine to arrive. I called the dealer and told them numerous times that when my truck arrived I wanted the u-joints and transmission fluid, among other things, checked before I bought it. They said everything was checked and of course I believed them. Well my buddy got a job at the Toyota the next town over and said he would check everything to see if the original dealer did anything. Nope... He told me my transmission fluid was low and zerks were pretty dry. At least I only put 600 miles on it so far.

    Will do.
    I'm using;

-Red line 75W-85 for the front and rear differential

-Toyota Transfer Gear Oil LF for the transfer case.

Thank you for all the hints/tricks guys,

Had my TRDORDCLB for 4 weeks now (1400 miles) and today was the first chance to check the U-joints. All 5 were pretty dry, only one had factory grease purge when I greased them.

I haven't filled out the dealer survey yet but this confirmed my suspicion that they didn't do squat for inspection/prep. And to top it off, I asked the salesman before I took delivery if certain areas were checked and his reply, "Let me guess you read online about the transmission fluid and u-joints? God, I wish people would stop reading that stuff. IT'S ALL FINE." Then he had the nerve to request that I give him all great scores on the survey... Really?!?!?!

Every dealer so far are filled with retards .... All about money.

i had to push so hard for them to check my shit and when they realized I was right about the u joints and transmission fluid being low the best they did was say

"I guess we learned something new."

Longo was cooperative though it took a little effort but they caved in and checked

Yes they did do something which if your dealer is like my dealer they turned a water hose on you truck to wash the dust off, then spit on the tires, and slapped a inspection sticker on it and called it good and then sent Toyota the bill. Now what I want to know is what Toyota expects the dealers to do to earn this "pre-delivery inspection" fee?

I requested before I picked up my truck that the U joints be checked for grease and proper torque along with checking my transmission fluid. Sadly the service department snow balled my salesman who is not a gear head by any stretch of the imagination and ended up they didn't do what I asked It wasn't until I emailed the wife of the dealership owner that I bought my truck from that I then afterwards received a call from their wizard of a so called service manager who said they will check the transmission fluid level and inspect the U joints for grease and torque tightness when I bring my truck in for the 5000 mile check up. My response to this rocket scientist is fine with me, if the transmission turns into molten metal or the U joint fails and it drops the drive shaft it will be on your dime and not mine!

Oh the fun with dealing with Toyota!

I bet my dealer didn't even wash it. The evening that I picked it up, we had crazy thunder storms and I'd bet they billed Mother Nature for the washing. :D

Pretty sure all they did was take the plastic off the seats and call it good.

And since my last post, I torqued the u bolts to 52 lb-ft, so one more thing that "probably" wasn't done.

Transmission seems ok (other then holding downshifts longer then I'd expect sometimes), but I wonder if...

Overall, I like the truck so far.

I agree with you there Freddy....but damn you'd think after what you paid for your truck and what Toyota is paying their dealers you wouldn't have to check the torque on your U joints much less if they are greased or not!

    Agreed Tarheel!

And people wonder why I have trust issues with stealerships! :) Pretty sad with my bad back (8 vertebrae fused/4 rods) that I was the one under the truck doing their job. Oh well, on the u joints and u bolts, I can take care of that and I know it was done right. At least there is room under it for those two items.

Received in the mail today the dealership survey form that my salesman groveled, begged, and pleaded that I give him high marks. I wonder should I? LOL! Hmmm ..... ?

Thanks for the write up on this everyone. I did mine today and the good news was all of my joints had grease but one of the front drive zerks had very little.

Mine did the same thing. I was honest on a couple things, and sure enough, I got a phone call the next morning right as they opened.

I have 198 miles on my AC TRD Sport. Tonight I went out to locate all of the zerks since I got my grease and gun today from Amazon and I noticed on two of them that there was actually grease on the opening of the zerk. I'm hoping that is a good sign that they actually used the zerks to put grease in the joints, but I am going to top them off anyways.

All dry, fronts took 5+ zerks. Rears were easier. All of 10 minutes of work.

Great advice in this thread! Thank you all!

Just got mine on Thursday: Build date APR 2016 at the Texas plant.

Not too dry on any - both fronts took about 2-3 to purge, Rear driveshaft front took 2 and middle took 1/2 a squeeze before the first seal purged but I gave it 3 to get all of them, furthest back took 3.
