Before I took delivery of my truck in April I had asked the dealer to do this (among other things). When I purchased they assured me they had, although I never had any proof. Today I figured I better get under there and do it myself just in case (about 1300 miles on my truck). Well it appeared that they did listen to me, as 4 out of the 5 zerks only took about 2 or 3 pumps max, paint was rubbed off the zerks already and a few had globs of grease covering them. That difficult one under the heat shield however, was a different story. It appeared untouched and took 11 pumps (removed the heat shield - probably could've fought it a bit and managed without doing that, but it was much easier just to get that thing out of the way). I don't know if they just missed that zerk or were lazy and didn't want to deal with that one, but I'm glad I checked. They also said they checked the transmission fluid but now I'm not real sure (I have no transmission issues as of yet). I do have the engine chirp that sounds like a pulley but is probably the high pressure fuel pump (look for the thread) and I'm going to have my local dealer check that out as soon as I get a chance. Maybe I can talk them into checking the ATF at the same time...

    None reported here.
I haven't heard of anyone dropping the shaft to check u- joints; 2WD or 4WD. I've seen a few around here playing with the operating angles without dropping the shaft; can't recall If they were 2WD OR 4WD.
    Who knows...

I try not to be a grease snob, but....
    JT6 is what I'm using.
    -Spicer recommended
    -cheap
    -available
-new grease goes in red, old purged grease comes out black; makes it easier to recognize a purged seal

Did your 2WD Tundra have greaseable u-joints?

No zerks, you're right but the factory grease in the new Tacos should be good for at least a year.

Maybe, if they were filled with the proper amount of service grease and not an insufficient amount of assembly grease.
Toyotacare doesn't cover it until 15,000 miles/18 mo.

Should grease purge evenly from around the blue boots in the joints? I greased all of mine last night and grease was only purging from a small point on each one? Sorry guys, first time with a grease gun....

Yep, as long as it's new grease coming out.

That's something I wanted to ask as well... we grease until new grease comes out or old grease? I stopped at old grease because I figured it's not actually old, just low. If it was part of a service then obviously I'd want to purge completely.

Yep. It's more a flush and fill procedure; not just a top-off.

Is it okay if I'm doing this at 12k miles? Am I going to have damage? I've already been off-roading a lot.

Are you asking if you're going to have a problem 'cause you didn't grease the ujoint right after purchasing the truck?
