Check to see if they removed the heat shield to reach the one under there, my dealership claimed to have performed this service but skipped this lubrication point, lame.

You don't need to remove the shield. Just reach over it

Well they skipped that lube point I scraped the black paint/sealant off the zerk guess possible the tech didn't know about it. I've nev3r had luck reaching it without dropping the shield , my gun can't quite articulate enough to get in there...

Well....not sure if it was needed or not but figured it couldn't hurt to grease them.....I asked the dealer to do it and they didn't but it's not worth the stress to complain about it.

Each of them required about 8 pumps before anything oozed out.

So at least now I know there is sufficient grease in them and don't have to wonder.

My 16 TDR OR 4x4 took 5-10 pumps to purge. Like others, I barely saw any "factory" grease come out and my zerks were mostly painted over. Luckily I greased mine at 400 miles. Feels like is coasts better now.

Best I can tell, toyota stopped putting greaseable joints in all 4x4s sometime in June/July.

    Is yours a recent build?

All 5 or just the 2 in the front? I believe that's what @splitbolt was referring to. My build was early June and has all 5 fittings; it seems very recently after that, Toyota stopped using zerked fittings in the rear driveshaft.

Roger that. Makes me wonder if folks here know what they're looking for or if Toyota is grabbing random parts out of the bin.

A 5/16 build goes along with the observations here then - Toyota changed the rear drive shaft joints in mid to late June 2016 builds.

    First post!

My 2016 DCLB off road doesn't have zerks on any of the rear drive shaft. I checked all of minebecause of this thread. #1 and 2 on the 1st page are identical to the pics on the 1st page of this thread. #3-5 aren't not. They don't have the blue seals and no zerks.

I'm not sure if it's a good thing to have sealed u joints or not but it's less to fool with when I do oil changes!

Anyhow, I've read a few pages and haven't noticed if anyone has posted this before.

Oh, I meant to mention that the 2 I was able to grease where empty as well. Just Hit 1k miles so I'm sure they are ok.

Also, I see where others have said they only have 2 zerks. Mine was built mid July, in Texas.

I have a tube of "Green Grease" in my gun that I use for my trailer. Would this void the warranty?

I have a July 2016 build for my 2016 TRDOR which had to be getting close to the last of them I would think. It only has the two in the front and they were not clean like someone had grease them at some point. It only has 1600 miles on it.

This is a old post but i see lots of 2016s with this problem.. I got mine in 12-16. I have had so many problems my taco and trying keep to topic only discussion protocol please tell me when you bought your truck 1-16 example 1-16, and is it a TRD or a SR5. (and yes i could use the document for checking the vin to answer this for myself and my black TSS was hard to find at the time of purchase.

What little i do know is the 2016 is a bad ass truck but because they converted to the 3.5 motor too many changes where done on the drive train and mine has been have had every primary implement replaced but the 6 speed gearbox.

Now i may have had a shiner too many but the u bolts are the bolts /uclamps hold the drive shafts in and the u-joints need as torqued as the specifications provided several times in this topic note or verified ... Then i see shit about the u bolts that are connected to rear-end assembly and the leaf springs and i have had another few shiner bocks and so try to understand this question are these bolts are loose too?

Meaning two different issues.. And WTF did the guys as the Assembly line use a torque wrench?

Clear as trinity river mud? Another beer...
