They did away with most of the grease zerks for 2017. The only 2 left are on the front drive shaft.

Are you all using general purpose lithium grease? Or is there some automotive grade?

Is this rust or some sort of deposit from salt or hard water?

Did mine last weekend, there were only 2 on the front shaft (rears were sealed) took about 6-7 pumps , just like everyone else. There WAS some grease already in the joint but not enough I fear.

I bought my sr 4x4 friday checked my zerks today and they were 3-4 pumps low.

Also it was my first time with a grease gun/ pump so I had no clue how to use it. at first i thought everything was suppose to be tight on the pump and you just put the tip directly on the zerk and it auto fastens. just like using air tools. i was wrong but through trial and error and grease everywhere I found out how it works.
So Just in case there are any other newbies... once you have your grease loaded there is the tip piece. I unscrewed it a little to be able to fit over the zerk. then you have to tighten the fitting to make a good seal on the tip. then pump away.

For 3rd gen; 4x4 models up to June/July of 2016.
Toyota apparently eliminated the greasable u-joints on the rear driveshafts at that time. The front driveshaft should still have them.

Thanks I'm sure from many of us for posting such great photos!!! Really appreciated. I read the cover on one is easily removed. Has four 12 mm bolts to gain access as shown on the #2 front driveshaft u joint Dannyblues

yes, correct. use threaded gun tips...

mostly it doesn't matter how tight it is when attaching to a zerk
they go on with a hard push.

    it is taking it off
which is a knuckle buster if you don't have a threaded barrel,
but it will yank off, as it is spring loaded...

so, unscrew it to get it off easy and don't have to yank very much at all

According to the owners manual on my 2016 TRD 4x4 it says to libricate propeller shaft. The dealer shop foreman, their master mechanic told me he didn't know of any specs for greasing universal joints or how many there were on my 2016 TRD 4x4. Then told me there were no differences in grease. Of course I told him white lithium as well as others vary considerably for each application.

Anyway at 11,300 I asked the shop to grease my driveshaft. Mechanic said there were only 3 zerks. Other two were factory sealed.

When it warms up I'll crawl under with my flex hose grease gun and do it right myself. Dannyblues

Meant to add lubricate propeller shaft at 15,000 miles in owners manual under maintenance interval services.
