Well I went to a few place this past friday/saturday to listen to some speakers. I never buy stereo equipment from stores , way to over priced. I was shocked that so many places really didn`t have stuff hooked up or were having problems. I went to Fry`s to hear the polk MM and sr series, they were not working, went to hh greg`s who used to have car audio stuff not anymore., went to best buy`s nothing there, went to ovations and was listening to the jl series C5 and the ZR series, then the ( salesyoungman) I can call him that, he was maybe in his early 20`s and I`m an old 46 yr old, anyway he switch ouver from the JL audio ZR and C5 series to the boston acoustics pro 60se series speakers and I must say I was truely impressed!! I would still like to hear the polk line , but for now I`m pretty sold on those boston acoustics pro 60se series. How about anyone else, does anyone have the polk`s? Fry`s had the polk db series hooked up and I listened to them and they did sound good for polk`s bottom line speakers.

I have Polk MM 6X9 in the front and 6.5 in the rears. Also have dB1001 tweeters in the front doors. I had the Boston Acoustics in a previous truck. My personal opinion would be the Bostons would win for sound quality, the Polks would certainly get the vote for reliability. I went through a few of the BA speakers. They would blow a coil if hammered too much. My Polks actually get better the harder you drive them. I had dB series in my Tundra and they served me well too. The Polks are very efficient when looking at the specs, but they do need some power to get the most out of them.

Before you pull the trigger on anything go listen to some Focal stuff. Something like the 165VB line should really give you a real bang for the buck. IMO that is a truly wonderful sounding component set. I got mine back when it was the 165V1 (minor tweak for the VB set) and got them for $188 shipped. I practically stole them. Still the BEST purchase I've ever made.

Thanks for the input! I have some focal k2power components in my f250. They are really nice speakers! I was looking for some good sounding dependable speakers in the middle cost range, my wife doesn`t want me to make the system in her truck very loud.

Out of the ones you listed the Pro60 and the Polk SR are sweet. Comparing the Bostons to the Polk's (SR's mind you) I prefered the SR's. It was close but the SR's were a tad smoother on the top end.

Polk speakers, all of them except the SR series, suck imo. All overpriced and dont perform up to the price. None of them except the SR series will come close to the sound of the JL C5 series or the Boston Pro's, and the SR's are usually double the price of the C5's and Boston's if I am not mistaken.

Focal speakers will beat out anything in the same price range of the set you are looking at.

Might be hard for him to find. I don't think I have a dealer in my area who has them. Certainly no dealer who has a sound board either.

I`ve heard good things about them (rainbow speakres )also morel speakers. I drove to a few shops inIndy , no one really had much to pick from. I bought the focal k2 power speakers I have in my f250 and never ever listen to a set of focal`s ever! they are very sweeeeet speakers!! I listened to the jl audio zr which sounded good , but the c5`s really didn`t sound all that great. I had some old kicker rs5 conponents that sounded better to me than those jl c5`s did.

I`m planning to run the alpine pdx5 amp it`s 75 rms watts x4 and 300rms watts x1. Or the new jl audio hd900/5 amp , it`s like 100 rmsx4 and 500 rms x1. this is my wife`s truck and she doesn`t want it to be very loud , as she puts it!

If it were me, I'd run the JL 900/5. That's why I have one in my room right now waiting to go into the truck.

However, for your wife, I'd say stick with the PDX5. It's plenty of power for a moderate (not insane loud) system. It will get plenty loud though if you ask it too. That amount of power when running efficient speakers is more than enough.
