This already started a big argument in another thread

The purpose of a foam gun or cannon is to increase lubricity when washing to reduce swirling.

Thats it. It DOES NOT clean the car or start to break up dirt. Those are false statements. If you buy a cannon for those reasons you will be disapointed.

Cool, thanks. I was under the impression that the point of it was to basically clean it for you, spray and rinse and that would magically make my truck sparkle, so hence my confusion.

That's not entirely true, its soap. Its gonna break dirt down. But its is meant to be used to reduce swirling. Fun factor is 9/10 using the cannon also.

Soap doesn’t break down dirt. If it did it would be breaking down your paint right along with it.

Soap breaks the polar bonds in water allowing the H2O molecules to break apart from one another. More individual water molecules makes for easier cleaning. It’s not chemically dissolving dirt.

you still have to use good old fashioned elbow grease to get the dirt off

So you need the soap to break shit down....you said the same thing but in your own way. And We all get how soap helps lubricate, it's how grease works.

A detergent molecule or soap molecule has two ends. One end is attracted to water and the other end is attracted to oil. It allows water to carry away oil. Science lesson of the day!
