PUT LOWER GEARS IN YOUR TRUCK.
3.58's, 35's and an auto trans don't get along well.
5.29's would do you right and would only cost you ~$1300 from ECGS. Plus, they would bolt in in a weekends time.

Drop in a 5.3 or 6.0 lq motor, forget the old style SBC they are becoming a thing of the past. The swap shouldn't be to bad but it WILL be tight, biggest issue is keeping it cool and routing exhaust, everything else is pretty simple.

Why not just build the 3rz and regear? Turbo's + gears = :burnrubber:

It'd probably be better than getting a 350

if you really are thinking about the swap the 350 would be the best bet that motor is awsome and cheap to build.

My friends brother did a build like this.He put a blown 302 on a international frame with a custom tocama body.He called it "interforyoda".Really rad build but he twisted three driveshafts and finally had some crazy military vehicle shaft installed and that worked. He has his own repair shop and he said it was a pain in the ass.I ll look for photos.

I put a 350 chevy in a 1980 toyota 4x4 it was a lot of work, i used small block bolt in mts out of a jeep, a blazer 350 turbo short shaft trans, a np205 gear driven transfer case i modified the stk transfer case mt and had custom drivshafts made , they used gm yokes on one end and toyota ends at the axles, the toy axles held up ok for moderate use, never really abused the setup, had a custom radiator from downey toyota,i think theyre out of buisness now but it had toyota mts with gm hose fittings so rad hoses were easy to get, also used short hot rod style headers to clear the frame , this was several years ago so it had a carb. i think you can get alot of stuff from advance adapters. Have fun, the power is incredible!

Mine has an Olds' 307 V8 and Turbo 350 trans in it.... I'll be swapping it out for my Vortec 5.7 soon.

    4.88s,
I just put 4.88s in it, and its pretty much back to stock power with the 35s on it just lookin for alittle extra. I heard about the 350 and i was just wondering how that would even work. By what im hearing it doesnt sound very wise to try it...

    No replacement for displacement...

I wouldn't advise it unless you are 100% capable of fabbing parts yourself or have a mega checkbook to just throw money at it. My truck is stripped down and has a simple 8 wire harness electrical setup with a carb'd smallblock in it. Custom engine mounts, transmission mounts, driveshaft. I can't wait until I blow up that tiny rear axle that's under there.

Check out the little 4BT cummins engines that were in bread trucks or the diesel reefer engines that are used on refrigeratoin trailers for semi's. Another good source for a small diesel would be a small Cat/Perkins 4-cylinders.
