I’m with you and well said. I have modified cars since 1989 but the Tacoma is stock. Well, folks here would say it’s modded but I think it is just accessorized. For the most part, if it bolts on or snaps in it’s an accessory not a mod. Opening an engine to swap cams is a mod. Long travel is a mod. Skid plates and sliders-very expensive accerories, not a mod in my book. Exhaust reroute-un-intrusive modification. Bolting on new shocks and keeping stock height is not a mod, and neither is a bed mat or emblem overlay. I had better stop now. Already caught heat for these sentiments in a previous thread.

What's not perfect about it? Looks like it fits very similar to the one on my dad's 2015 Colorado.

Wait, your grossly mis-matched, ill-fitting canopy was only $100?!? How about you sell it to me for $150 and your problem becomes my problem?! You would think by the criticism, this is what we were dealing with.

I can agree with this. My “mods” are almost always add-ons that don’t take away from the OEM design these days. I don’t like taking a perfectly good working setup and making it work maybe better but probably worse by swapping it for something aftermarket. The only exception to that would be a regear which is not really straying in design, it’s just a different performance result based on what I want.

Went down the mod rabbit hole with my Jeep 10 years ago and I’m finally converting back to all stock now. Lifted it, had to change the transfer case output and driveshaft to double cardan, steering linkage angles were shit, still never handled right, the list goes on. Just rebuilt the t-case back to stock this week, lowered it down to stock height, about to source a stock driveshaft. Would have been a whole lot cheaper if it stayed how it was 10y ago. The funny part is I only ever lifted it (which started the mod avalanche) because the tires that came on it were oversized and on aftermarket rims. At the time I should have just seeked out a nice set of stock rims and installed smaller tires. Now I’m doing that as well. Live and learn.

Let me give you an analogy...
Right now, I have one dining room table and am building another one.
The one that is set up now in my dining room is a 3/4 sheet of plywood supported by two sawhorses and a few chairs around it. We ate dinner there last night.
I am building a dining room table that is two inche thick live edge Pecan wood and is 40 inches wide by 84 inches long, along with custom pedestal supports at each end.

Now, pretend I am on dining room table makers forum, or Table world, and posting a pic of my plywood and sawhorse table and telling everyone how much money I saved because it will only be used part time.
I would be crucified. You guys are just blowing smoke, like my mom did when I was 7 and showed her the dog I drew in school that day that looks like an elephant seen through the eyes of a guy on a particularly nasty acid trip.

As someone whose eating off of 3/4" and 2 saw horses I would have thought you might not be so critical of the topper.

I wouldn't post a pic of my plywood and sawhorse. I will post pics of the table I'm building.
