Im right there with ya Mark, ill help but if your clueless and unprepared i make them learn the hard way. The CVS arent that weak on these 1st gens either they get a bad rap from people who cant drive. Ive been running 200:1 through them since 2008 and blew my first last summer on one of the easiest sections of trail idleing and i broke it at the strongest part of the joint...... I have heard that they beefed them up on the new trucks, and didnt they make the ring gear larger? There was a guy on TTORA that was trying to swap an IFS diff out of a 2nrd gen into a 1st gen but it never happend. I always advocate at least one spare CV as that will typically prevent the breakage of one lol! I typically wheel with 3 spare CVS, my 2wd conversion kit, a spare tcase input for my lefty (which can be used for the crawl box i would just have to gut the lower gears/box), spare driveshafts, lower ball joints and a spare crawler main shaft/coupler. I go a little overboard on spares, and i tend to be paranoid! I wish i had spare TRE's but i boogerd my old ones up replaceing them.

Interesting I will pick one up a TRE and start carrying on of our extra pipe wrenches. How much is a spare TRE?

I'll be honest....I'm just trying to lightly break into this new hobby. I'm not aiming to get into anything too heavy that's gonna make me vulnerable into busting anything. I get an accident will happen and things may break and I need to be somewhat prepared with some basics. I just wanna get a little dirty and meet some cool people.

You need a tire and a tie rod. Usually the tie rod itself buckles and then the tie rod end usually pops apart too. The pipe wrench is to break the inner joint of the tie rod loose from the rack. I have seen stock length tie rods go but its usually more a problem for the LTD crew

Juan-you dont need to worry you will be fine :D

Whats up everyone. Im looking for a 3inch lift. Toytec has one for around 300 bucks. does anyone know if its a good one or should I spend a little more and get the 5100 kit that one is like 975 to my door. Is it really worth 675 more. Then I got to find someone to install it. Before the lift I got to get new tires. Im waiting for farm and barn to have that sale on the cooper STT buy 3 get one free. The stock tires on theses trucks SUCK.

I can help you with pricing. I sell Tacoma parts for ct4x4.com. You get what you pay for on lifts. A 5100 lift is definitely worth the extra money.

PM me and I will get you a deal.

    Personal message.

Also, welcome!! When shipping for a lift, it is important to find a lift that will meet the type of driving you do. Street mostly, daily driver, will you bee off roading? Hauling? Towing? All these things will affect the choice of components of the lift.

Thanks for explaining that for me. As far as the lift goes I drive my truck pretty much just on the weekends. The only time I drive it every day is Oct thur Jan when its deer season and thats pretty much when I got her in the mud to. Just want a little more clearance and for it to look bad ass. I will PM you when I figure out how to do it remember you guys are dealing with a rookie here lmao.

To piggy back off mark, buy the largest crescent wrench you can find (at least 12") and keep that with your trail tools, one of my most versatile tools in my tool box. Get a large BFH and a full set of metric sockets and wrenches and you will be setup to fix almost anything that breaks on the trail and it will cost less than 200bucks.

Let me know when you get your lift situation figured out. I do ALOT of custom fabrication, but also install lifts/etc. I am usually less than half what most shops charge, and do MUCH better work since I actually know what I am doing, lol.

    Wlecome!

Welcome to the forum. I am new to it too. I have learned a lot from members here, also spent a lot of coin with all the mods. I went with OME 3" lift and love it. Rides better than the factory ride, good clearance. A lil pricey but worth it. Hope this helps out.
