I want to get the wheels and tires finished, then I think I will take a little break lol After that will most likely be a front bumper with a winch etc. and 886's. Not sure how soon a bed rack and RTT will be but I do want them!

Also, would be interesting to compare the big names in RTT's with a DIY like this. The only thing I would want to add to it right away is an awning or enclosure for the ladder area.

I like the RTT's in concept and considered getting one but here are the cons that outweighed it for me:
    1) i would rip it off the truck or sverely damage it wheeling: I have dents on my roof and all the way down my bedsides from trees and rocks, they surely would have ripped the RTT clean off the truck
    2) you would have to pack up camp each day: this is fine if you "expoing" (whatever that means here in the continental US) but if you on a multiday (4+) camping trip at a place like flat nasty in MO, it would be a major PITA to break camp each day to go wheeling to come back to camp and set it up again.
    3) I would have had to purchase or build a rack for it in the bed

Cool idea if your worried about tigers raiding camp in Africa at night or even just desert wheeling, but around here it seems way too easy to mess the tent up while out wheeling for the day.

Just the thought process that i went through when i considered one of these. I ended up getting a 2 man Coleman tent off Amazon for 40 bucks; it lasted through 3 hailstorms/tornadic thunderstorms with only 3 drops of water over 7days of camping. Money well spent!!

Agree with your thought process completely. I also think it could be quite annoying to have to break down, explore and then set up EACH day. I do plan to make trips to Yellowstone, Montana, South Dakota (again) and other Northwestern states in the future and those are "bear-territories". I figure for a trip like that, it would be good to have. Maybe not a full CVT or Tepui RTT but something like this is definitely cost effective and won't break the bank.

The real way to be awesome is to have a trailer with a RTT on it.

Jeremy (Evokid03) will be meeting at my house as well so we will be rolling 4 deep on the way down :D

Looks like good weather. Low chance of rain and cooler than it has been the last few days as well. Can't wait.
