I dont have any pictures of them, but the only complaints the kids had was that the lap belt was hard to remove to get out.

Has anyone noticed that when placing a rear facing seat in the middle that the seat does not sit level side to side?
    It dips towards the middle?

Why don’t you put the rear facing car seat on the other side and the forward facing car seat behind you? That way you have more leg room! My son is in a rear facing car seat behind the front passenger seat, once he’s forward facing, I’ll put him behind me and when my wife and I plan on having another baby, I’ll put the baby behind the passenger seat!

I have a baby on the way and have been going down the rabbit hole of car seats.

I have a DC with the rear seats removed and a plywood platform installed. Mostly for our dogs to have a bit of room back there.

Is it possible to have a car seat back there without the bottom part of the seats? I can't find much info online about whether or not it's actually needed for a car seat. I've seen a few posts of people with car seats in access cabs with the rear seats put away. My setup wouldn't be much different.

no - don't do it. They should be installed on the seat with the seatbelt or LATCH like they're designed to be.

I struggled with 2 kids in baskets / rear facing / front facing and in all the combinations (I sit too far back).... now my truck is a work truck and the back seats are coming out next. If you don't want to put the seats back in, get a 2nd vehicle for daddy duty.

The belts and latch system are still there. Only the bottom of the seat is removed. The platform is pretty much the same height as the bottom of the seats were... It just extends over the footwells.

You're likely right in the "no" answer anyway. I doubt many seats are designed or tested with the bottom of the seat removed. Mostly just curious. I just didn't want the dogs losing that extra space for them to lay down. With the 60/40 split if I put the dogs on the 60 side with a platform that leaves the kid on the driver's side which would have me loading/unloading on the traffic side which is not ideal either.

Rear facing seat went in the middle on my Tacoma and Corolla. One day I moved them to each side with forward facing still behind the driver and rear facing behind the passenger as my wife has a few hour to drive with just the kids. After that she insisted on having the middle seat between them for decreased fighting.

Don’t do it, man. Your kids are the most precious things you’ll ever have. Use the seat the way the manufacturer intended.

I removed the driver side rear seat back which allows my 6-4 self to have at least 4 inches between the car seat and driver seat. The seat base is secure and level still

T minus 20 weeks to start researching what car seat to stick in the back of my doublecab.

Anybody out here.......fit a baby seat and a gsd? I've got the 60 percent side removed for a diy goose gear style platform for the pupper. 60 percent side will go back in for a few months but how feasible is it to have the baby seat behind me on the 40% side? I'm 5'10, my mom and wife only sit behind me when the truck is rarely loaded up.

This is my current setup. I am 6-4 with plenty of leg room and still about 4 inch between the driver seat and car seat.

One thing to remember about child carseats is they are tested by oem specs. Any seat alterations may not be safe for your littles one. Additional studies have shown carseats are over 40% safer if placed in the middle of the backseat. Better protection from side impacts and also the side airbags. The force alone of the side airbag along with the added height of carseat base may not be as safe. I would recommend you read the carseat manual and have your carseats installed at a local firehouse or any other approved location. Best of luck

Adult question, what if you have multiple kids or when would it be "considered safe" to have kids "sit by the window." With that logic, it is always less safe to sit the kids by the window/doors. Pardon my ignorance, I've got tons of reading/catching up to do.

Its best to look over both the vehicle manual and carseat manual. They will give you the best information regarding carseats. I cant recall which manufacturer advised not to use a carseat base if the seat was near a curtain airbag due to possible suffocation. Lots of reading and conversation with customer support. I had 3 kids in the back of a 2nd gen taco. One infant with a base center seat. One toddler in a booster seat sitting behind the passenger. One kid getting out of the booster seat behind me. Best of luck
