So don't get a cheap trailer? Get one that's appropriate for the job you're asking of it. While I do understand the not having room for a trailer, you're using your truck which is WAY more expensive and has a lower capacity than even a cheap trailer. Hell, you can get an F-250 flatbed from Home Depot for like $20. Actually, I probably would just have it delivered to my driveway via forklift.

If this were a farm truck that you just drive around throwing hay to the cows or whatever, sure, load that thing til the bumper hits the ground, then weld the frame back together with rebar and old license plates.

As I said, you do you, but as a daily driver/'froader/"normal use" truck, there's no way I'd overload it that bad.

I think you're wrong on the economics, big time. I own a truck, I'm not going to pay $20+miles to rent a truck every other weekend. Trailers that can handle over 3klbs start at $5k. Delivery is $80 every time.
And all for being afraid of the numbers Toyota provided. The only solution in your mind seems to be get a bigger truck so you can actually fully utilize the bed? Too late for that

So because I don't load my bed up with 3500 pounds of concrete I should get a Civic? That's a bit ridiculous.

You're worried about the cost of a trailer with the proper capacity, yet you're more than doubling the capacity of your truck that's worth probably double that. I guess I don't see where the math adds up.

I prefer to use the right tool for the right job. Not just any tool I happen to have nearby.

I use my truck for small truck stuff because Tacomas are small trucks. If I (regularly) do big truck stuff, I'd get a big truck. You seem to regularly do big truck stuff, but are stuffing 10 pounds of crap in a 5 pound bag. Just because it fits, doesn't mean you're not going to tear a big hole in the bag.
