    Hi everyone!

I bought a 2022 Tacoma and was curious if something is wrong with mine or perhaps not all Tacomas have this feature....

I see on Youtube, lots of people with newer Tacomas (and ever other Toyotas) can leave a key in the ignition with the door open and turn off the chime by pushing the black button/switch that is inside the door. I think these are called a courtesy button or something. My Tacoma will not stop chiming even if I push this button while the door is open and the key is in the ignition.

Is the feature only for having key in and ignition switch completely to "off" (not sure if I only tried with with Acc feature "on")? Or is this a trim package feature? I have a very basic SR. In fact, it's a rare utility trim package where they remove the rear seats. (works for me since I store stoff behind front seats like a custom paddleboard cart with big beachwheels)

I actually tried asking a guy at my local toyota dealership and he was clueless to even when I was taking about. He didn't seem to even know about the feature so I got no where with asking my dealership about this. The button is in the same place as the other Toyotas so I can't imagine it should not work the same way.

Do you have a picture of this button...

I might be wrong but I believe the door switch is integral with the door latch... I will have to look at my truck when I get a chance...

The days of that button are long gone on the Tacoma. The switch is internal.

https://ibb.co/jbwjppCHere is mine. It's called a courtesy door switch. There are multiple youtube videos where 3rd generation tacos will stop chiming if you push it with key in. (even other Yotas too). Mine does not stop chiming if you push the button in. Is mine broken or is this feature only for certain trim levels? I have only a basic key. This is weird, right? I have key in the off position and it still doesn't work with the switch like I see on Youtube.[IMG]

As you can see, there is a courtesy button there as well as second door latch switch to the right. I've seen like Youtube videos where all you do is bush the black round button and your "chime" sound should stop. On my 2022 Taco, the door chime sound only gets interrupted when you press it. It does not turn off. I'm worried the wiring is wrong for my new Tacoma. If they wired this wrong, what else did they wire wrong in Mexico?

    Oh look, another mod....

Okay, I'll be the one to ask these questions:

    1) Do you plan on driving around with the door open or having the door open for very long periods of time while the key is in the ignition?
    2) Has it occurred to you to take the key OUT of the ignition if this bothers you?
    3) Why would you want to deactivate a safety feature from the manufacturer?

Would be pretty funny if you locked the key inside the truck. You'd likely blame Mexico for that too.

Usually people want to do this so they can play the radio with the doors open, like when cleaning the truck, etc.

I just want to know if my truck is wired correctly. It's okay if they removed this feature but would be weird if so many third generation Tacomas let you turn the chime off by pressing in the button. I wonder if what they did was there is two types of buttons. One button has two position and will stay clicked down (which interrupts the chime). Maybe Other Toyotas just come with a simpler courtesy switch that does not click down at all (mine does not click down and stays down so I'm guessing the ones that stop maybe have different switch).

My 2018 has a momentary push button switch, like yours, and a single press and release does stop the chime when the door is open. However, I have a push button start, not a key start.

Okay thanks. I think the feature is only certain trim levels and all of the Youtube videos fail to mention that. Thank you guys.
