Just a thought that occurred to me as I was putting a fan on my trans cooler.
Engine at idle, place hand in front of rads, its sucking a lot of air through rads. It's got no where to go except out the bottom of vehicle.
So doesn't the chin spoiler not only "help" with mileage but also help in cooling by creating a larger negative pressure area underneath at highway speeds. Thus giving all that radiator air a place to go with less effort.
    Chin spoilers unite! Lol

Nope, there's nothing "cool" about the chin spoiler.

All of these posts concerning engine cooling (spoilers, scoops, etc), who's Tacoma is overheating? I've only seen overheating issues when the radiator is caked with mud.

Sorry. Not talking about overheating. I mean optimization. Maybe won't need add-on trans cooler to pull a boat if one where to leave the spoiler on. That type thing.

Nope. Chin spoiler is for MPG brownie points with the gubmint. OR and Pro don't have one.

What about spoiler AND TRD skid plate.
You may be on to something.

Purpose of chin spoiler is to counteract aerodynamic drag caused by fake hoodscoop. This is why Sport and OR trims have same mileage rating.

And they say it can't be done,

It actually does make long highway road trips not wander as much in the lane

Nope. I average the same mpg with the chin removed as I do with it on. And I’ve never overheated my tacos. Ever.

Get some cosmetic surgery on that chin of yours and join the rest of Hollywood. :rasta:

You don't need to add one to pull a boat. I pulled 6500# in 100+ temps with no mods. Truck hated it but it did just fine with no overtemps.
Your truck is set up to do exactly what the specs say it will do with no mods.

I took off my spoiler, no loss of mileage that I can see. No noticeable wind noise, but it looks great off and then the TRD Pro skid plate went on. Mine cools just fine.

Your theory makes as much sense as most, so I vote yes. I agree with you.

I certainly understand why someone who would tear it off offloading would go ahead and remove it.

I don't understand why someone would take it off otherwise. But whatever floats their boat . . .

So the OR and the Pro both have diminished cooling efficiency. Well I'll be damned. :notsure:

Brother-in-law 2017 Sierra with the 5.3 cylinder deactivation achieves better mpg with the chin spoiler. He averages 23 mpg on the highway with the chin spoiler on and around 21 mpg with the spoiler off. I don't think it does much to our trucks bc the ground clearance and approach angles are greater. The more flow you can keep from going under the vehicle the less surface drag you achieve from all the non aerodynamic under body components.

I think with day to day driving, running the vehicle harder under full acceleration, weather temps, AC on or off plays a huge till in accurate mpgs. I didn't notice any difference in my mpg as some weeks it better and some worse, all depends on how your driving the vehicle. Plus I added a pro skid plate a few days later and mine runs fine, no fuel economy loss, no added air noise and the vehicle engine temp seems the same. Hey a side note the OR and Pros have no chin spoiler and they don't have temp problems.

I would not recc pulling a mid plus sized boat without a trans cooler. Its not worth it on a frequent basis. Even if u have a spoiler. A tranny is big bucks. Plus you have some room to argue if u r in warranty and have a tranny issue

Perhaps. The Colorado has that engine airflow warning if you remove it’s massive, low-hanging air dam, but plenty of people have removed it and report no issues. Similarly, the Tacoma’s airflow sans dam might also be less than optimal but still totally sufficient for most uses. And yeah, like Dangermoney, I’d add a trans cooler if you want to tow frequently.
