So when you remove the front air dam, you will see two blocks that are bolted in right under the bumper cover towards the tires.
I was told those are functional and protect the control arms and strut tower should anything fly in that general area.
D334F3BE-BA1E-497C-A0E7-73ABA5025CDD.jpg The second gen Tacomas also have this.
Also the curt front receiver I attached used those same bolts I think.

On their inaccurate website, yeah, but not the window stickers. On the M/Ts at least, a 19 off-road is rated 20 highway. The sport is listed as 21 highway.

Yeah, I can see it on highway driving, but with a bit of in town driving mixed in it never made any difference on my old Sport.

That only holds true if all of the trim lines didn't report the exact same MPG numbers (with options being equal...i.e. auto to auto, MT to MT, etc). I believe the only reason that ugly ass chin strap exists is because a "sport" truck usually has a lower stance and this help give that look.

Now there’s something you don’t see very often. Looks better than I would have imagined. This makes this thread have more value than the other 13 current air dam removal threads

On the Automatic it's the same so the difference has to come from something other than that goofy spoiler.

Yep, I’d be interested to know what the diff gearing is between OR and Sport in the MTs.

    coming soon!
I trimmed about 4" off the bottom my air dam. Left one air wing on each side and a 1.5" of air dam below the pockets that direct air up towards the radiator core. Had to hide that hideous squared tube.

265/75/16 tires only everything else stock.
I took mine off my sr5 because when I was off-roading it would always scrape- I definitely took a hit to mpg after removal by 1-2 mpg.
It made a nasty noise when touching the ground and I didn’t like the look of it.

Could be a matter of diminishing returns - the automatics have much taller gears, so the aerodynamics may make less of a difference vs the M/Ts

True, both have a 4.3:1 pinion. However, the off-road does have a larger differential, with a locking mechanism. The off-road also has power brakes vs vacuum brakes, which adds more drag as well. Different tires factory, no aero-dam. It’s kind of surprising there’s only 1mpg difference tbh

The Sport MT also has the beefier rear, the electric brake booster shouldn't have any impact but anything is possible, you are probably correct about it being a combination of several things that add up.

Same diff minus the locker eh? The more you know
I thought it was a hydro-boost system running off the p/s pump?
