Mine got in the wall of my house though, so it was justifiable.

I stayed at a National Park bunkhouse for fire crews one summer and there were .22 bullet holes all around the baseboard in the livingroom. I asked a crewmember what was up, and he said “rats”.

I don't think that will fit in his air filter housing.

Thanks for all your comments, at least some of them. I'm not a cat person. Scratch that. Peanut butter? I've tried that. Hardware cloth over the opening, a good option that I might do. Setting on recirculate before shutting engine off. Might be worth a try. The best proactive option that I've found is to use ordinary rat traps (forget the PB, popcorn, etc.) and simply set them along the foundation wall of my home, ideally with some garden perimeter border material (parallel to foundation just to create a channel for the trap). All rodents like to follow foundations). I've gotten 10 in 5 days with three traps. Thinking of the skinning for lampshades option (almost as wacko as some of your comments). I'm a joker, so you live by the sword, you have to feel the sword from time to time. Catch my invite to Toyota? No reply. Watch out, I don't give up. Expect a call to a regional district mgr in near future. That's why you get paid the big bucks. I"ll report how I make out. This is preventable without a lot of cost. Thanks.

Here is the hardware cloth screen i used to block off the opening to the blower fan.

This is on a Gen 2 but the opening is similar on the Gen 3. make sure it has no gaps and is tight.

Takes less than 30 minutes and you wont ever have them getting into the vents.

As far as setting on recirc - I thought the Tacoma turned that off when you shut down to keep fresh air circulating?

Not sure on the Gen 3,but i am 100% certain that on Gen 2 it stays on if it was on when you turned the truck off.

Apparently we have the same soy based power cables as the Millennium Falcon. Any one else grinnin' from ear to ear. :taco:
