Chirp at cruising speeds

2010 4.0 with 164k. Been having a chirp at low cruising speeds up to 45 mph. Not always consistent. Any idea if anyone has had same thing? Tia

 

Does it sound like crickets? I had a bad driveshaft center support bearing that was bad and made cricket chirping noises.

 

I guess you could say. Been putting it off but it’s gotten more consistent. Truck drives great overall

 

Mine drove fine, but made a bunch of cricket noises. I have a 3rd gen but it uses a very similar driveshaft bearing.

Man that’s the exact noise.. not always consistent but when it comes up it does it

 

Yeah, mine didn’t do it 24/7 once it started. More like after driving for a bit, as if the bearing had to warm up. It went to the dealer the day after it started so I didn’t hear it long enough to gather any patterns.

If yours sounds like mine, it’s pretty much guaranteed to be the bearing. Some people keep on driving with no problems besides the embarrassing noise. I was under warranty so off to the dealer it went. If I was out of warranty then I’d have kept driving and casually ordered parts and done the work myself when I had time. If doing the work yourself, you will need a u-joint as well because the u-joint by the bearing needs to be removed to get the bearing off. Some will argue that since you’re replacing one u-joint, it makes sense to buy 3 and do them all. Up to you. Dealer only changed the one for me, I had no u-joint problems. The bearing goes bad way more often than the joints do.
