Chirping/hissing/high pitch grinding noise when I step on the gas

    Hello,
I recently noticed a strange chirping noise when I step on the gas. This happens every time I step on the gas when parked and faintly hear it when driving but not much. It makes a chirping/hissing or a noise similar to when you're releasing extra air/gas from a propane tank or a hose. It also sounds like a metallic grinding noise. This noise occurs when I step on the gas and it immediately makes this noise. The engine revs up normally but this noise seems to occurs as soon as I step on the gas and then it goes away (within a second or so) and the engine revs up normally.

I have a 2021 Tacoma off road 2x4 with 43K miles. Just happened in last day or so and it's not going away. Does anyone have any info on this?

    Thank you!

Take the belt off and determine if it’s an external (belt, pulley, fan clutch) or internal (water pump, crank).

Sounds are going to be nearly impossible for internet diagnoses, I’d get to a good tech or start narrowing down with a friends help.

Do not take your belt off.

Get a water bottle with some water in it, throw some water on the belt then start the truck. If the sound goes away its most likely dust on your belt. Mine would do this sometimes, I got by with the water bottle trick for a couple years, every 3 months or so I would toss some on the belt. Sometimes you need the truck on, be careful of the radiator fan and toss some on if its really bad you need more water typically.

My belt got really loud, changed it and it hasn't done it since.

If this doesn't fix the issue, most likely it is a pulley bearing at that point.

Sorry, but I have nothing but bad news regarding my experience with "The Chirp". A few months after I bought my 2015 Tacoma, the chirp began. It was intermittent, so my 1st complaint received a "monitor" from the Toyota service dept. I moved to Asheville, NC and complained several times to local Toyota dealer finally resulted in them getting the regional service manager involved. Replaced alternator, belt pulley and serpentine belt. Talked me into splitting the charge with them. $400 out of my pocket. The chirp is back. It does not sound like the noise in the video on this forum of the high speed fuel pump. Thinking I'll just trade the truck in.

Does the truck have to move to make the noise or can it be stationary and still make the noise when revving the engine? If it has to move then I'd look into the driveshaft/u Joints. Stationary, I'd look at engine ancillaries or pulley bearings.
