I have a 2017 double cab trd 4x4 that started this chirping noise 3 months after i bought it, if its normal why didn't it do it from the start off the lot. I will be making my appointment soon they will not like me if i get thats normal. Plus anyone having issues with the light controller for dash lights brightness mine comes on when i start the truck and cant get it to go away and it dont adjust the light brightness. Never had any issue with my 2010 Tacoma TRD that i would still have if people didn't run red lights. Sorry chirp sounds like its under the truck so could be under the hood next time ill check after its ran, also dont do it untill it has been warmed up. Dash light im talking about the skinny knob you push to change the odometer to trip a trip b if you push it. it also turns down the brightness of the dash lights. It does turn off after a few minutes but when i turn it left or right it says i can adjust the brightness i turn it down it jumps back to bright and takes for ever to go away even the back button on the steering wheel does not make it go to regular screen with my digital speed omiter.

Oh boy... is the chirp from under the hood? ... completely un-normal... you get a new fuel pump with that and a side of waiting around the dealership.

Dash lights?? completely stumped... which is also completely normal.

I've been experimenting with this because I've had the chirp too. Gone now.

I think he is saying he is having trouble adjusting the brightness of the dash lights.

OK here is what I've found on the chirp. It is the high pressure fuel pump. It has never shown up on mine until the truck is at operating temperature after 10-15 minutes of continuous driving. Mine only does it with Shell gas, any octane including V-power. It doesn't do it with any grade of Exxon. It also doesn't do it with ethanol free gas. I have a couple of non-branded ethanol free stations to choose from. I also get 2 mpg's better mileage with ethanol free. So is it the 10% ethanol? Don't think so because my Exxon stations have 10% ethanol and it's quiet with it. I think it must be Shell's additive package. I'm going to try Valero next and see what happens. I've heard of some people who switched to Shell and it quit though. My advise is experiment with different gas brands and see what happens. I think everyone who has used ethanol free has had it go away. Another thought I had is perhaps the moisture content in the tanks at the station could cause it irrelevant to the brand. Perhaps my Shell station has high moisture content causing the chirp since others have had luck switching to Shell. Bottom line, try different brands and ethanol free and see what quiets it and what doesn't. One word of caution, most non-branded ethanol free stations have minimal detergents added so using sea foam would be beneficial every other fill up when using ethanol free to control carbon build up. Hope this helps!!

I've had a chirping under the hood when it is warm for about two months, but it doesn't do is all the time. It will chirp for a little while and then stop, then start back up a few minutes later. Is this the same issue you guys are talking about, or is the chirping you are experiencing consistent?

Don't take the trolls seriously. If you're talking about the almost cricket sounding chirping, it's your trucks direct-injection system. It also has a self-cleaning feature that makes the sound even louder, but it's completely normal.

You may have had the noise the entire time you've owned it, but you haven't really paid attention to it. Once you hear a noise you're kind of focused on it and on the lookout for it.

I hope it helps put your mind at ease.

The ticking that occasionally gets louder at idle when the engine is warm is the injector self-cleaning feature. Kind of like small gravel rolling around in the engine. It's normal. The fuel pump chirp is a high pitched cricket like sound that appears to be related to fuel type somehow. The Scion FRS was also known to do this with people having success with different fuel types to make it go away.

The injectors cleaning feature is more of a ticking sound that comes and goes as need at hot idle. The chirping is usually constant at operating temperature and at a much higher pitch. Like crickets or an engine pulley chirping. Some people have mistaken it for a pulley in the past. It does appear to be related to fuel type for some reason. Some people will never experience it because they never use a fuel that causes it.

I meant that the direct injection is a chirping and the self cleaning makes the whole operating sound louder. But yes, playing with different octanes from different different locations does change the sound.
