I saw someone mention this while scanning through a thread and now I can't find it. If a truck shows no sign of a leak the dealer is still performing some kind of preventative measure, correct?

And the implementation of that measure does or does not require the dropping of the headliner?

About to set up my appointment and wondering which pieces of modification I need to remove and which I can keep untouched.

From what dealer told me headliner is pulled down to access light and new seal installed, it is checked if it leaked. If so anything with damage is replaced and/or cleaned.

    That's promising.

And thank you for the other responses. Guess I'll just pull the overhead rack for them.

The letter and bulletin explains that end if there isn’t a sign of a leak they will change the gasket....and to your point will have to drop the rear of the headliner to change the gasket.

So if you have a shell, rack or headliner do-hickey you’ll have to remove it.

If yours leaked then they’ll change any water damaged parts....no cost on either option.

I went to my dealer and they asked me to remove my roof rack and my camper shell to replace the light. Well, in order to do so, I have to remove my light on the roof rack too. So I declined the recall but not sure how bad this could be. Any thought about this?20210820_194116 (2).jpg

I read the recall and that's why I was surprised to read the thread I cannot find. Fairly certain someone posted the procedure as well. And if there wasn't a leak, it looked they just performed the work from the back of the truck. I'll also admit that my memory is pretty bad, so there's that.

I am also surprised that the dealer asked to remove the roof rack. I can't imagine why.

Beginning to think I'll just opt out. Mine isn't leaking. And it hasn't leaked.

I have the same setup (roof rack and cap with rack) but a long bed. If there is no visible leaking in the headliner they just apply sealant and a trim ring. If you have a fold down front window on your cap it can be done without removing. It’s a tight squeeze but my dealer did mine without removing the cap.

If you don’t have any leaking they will run a bead of caulk and install an external bezel to make sure it won’t leak. Be good to get it done. I want mine done but there’s no campaign for Canadian vehicles. Dealers in Canada won’t do it and you can’t order the parts here.

You can do it yourself. Order the repair kit at your dealer (00948-CHMSL) and it will look like this when you’re done:

Just discovered mold on rear seats of my 2018 Toyota Tacoma TRD even though the dealership supposedly remedied the 3rd brake light problem the last time I was in for maintenance. Can I expect them to address the mold problem with a deep clean of the upholstery? I have an appointment scheduled.
