    My grandparents rescued a mut/lab/ mix for me when I was 11 (25 now) and he has been the best dog! very smart and loyal, no health problems either. unless its a show dog or a hunting dong it shouldnt really matter. check craigslist and your local animal shelter!

    I would agree with you to a point. You can certainly find great, healthy dogs at the dog rescue. Although a lot of people pay for the pure bred for showing or hunting, that's not the only reason for paying the extra money. I went with a pure bred because I could meet the dogs parents, see their temperments and have a copy of the blood lines showing no indication of eye and hip problems. I also know the dog was cared for very well in his first 2 months of his life and kept with his mother and other pups so he learned a lot from them.

    Again, not saying you have to buy a pure bred to have a great dog, but there are certain advantages to knowing the dog's history.
