I just joined this forum but have been lurking a while. This is a great site. I have been trying to decide whether I should trade my trusty Outback for a Tacoma. Well, I still don't know but I've narrowed my choices down at least.
'15 4 door or extended cab TRD off road. One a manual. Aaargh! Life is full of tough choices. I will drive both this week. Here are a couple pics. IMG_1480.PNG.jpgIMG_1479.PNG.jpg IMG_1481.PNG.jpgThe short cab is a manual with a few less options. I will drive both this week. I think I like the idea of a 4 door better. We shall see. Any advice or specific things to look for? Thank you.

Depends on your family situation if you have kids the 4door is the better option. If not I’d go access cab all day longer bed the short bed sucks big time if you haul anything other than groceries. I wish I would of got the access cab only option with the stick is no ATRAC is pretty awesome from what I’ve seen. I have the auto which is nice for traffic but rowing thru gears is so satisfying. Either way it’s a great rig an let the MODS begin.

IMHO doublecab short bed will hold its value a little better due to the fact that most people prefer 4 full doors (and it sounds like you do as well when I read your initial post)

but it all boils down to price, options, miles, condition etc...

either way will be an upgrade from your Outback

Do you want a usable backseat or a usable bed?

I'm leaning towards the 4 door so far. The dealer sent me a short video of it this morning. They seem willing to deal. It might be my "wagon with a big bed". We shall see. I need to drive both to know for sure. At this point I'm still unsure if I want to give up the comfort of the Outback. I will miss the Eyesight system. On the other hand I'll have a solid platform to work with.

I have another question. I've got two identical trucks in my sights. 4 door short bed TRD Offroads. Both black. One a '14 and one a '15. Is there any reason to favor one year over the other? Older one has 10K more miles. Any engineering changes or anything like that? They both look great online. Thank you.

No difference. I owned a 13 and 15, put 100k on both never had a single problem!

Thanks. I thought there might have been some invisible internal update. I'll obviously go for the lesser mileage then.

I love my manual trans access cab

I think it's the best configuration (for my needs)

I'm coming off a night shift so I likely
Won't go driving this morning. I love manual but I live in traffic and crap most of the time. I'm torn between the two. I hope to drive both either drunk today or sober(ish) tomorrow. I really don't need another seat but that jumpseat stuff turns me off. Just seems so added on without much thought.

Yeah, the head unit might be different because mine were different from 13 to 15 but that's irrelevant to me. mechanically they're the same.

If you drive mostly in traffic, don't get the manual. and edit out the alcohol related statements - we all know you're joking, but...

I'm looking at trading a technically superior vehicle so that stuff matters to me. Thank you for your help. I should say technologically not technically. My bad.

Haha! Yeah that was probably dumb. I would never leave the house under the influence. Wink Wink. I don't desire a manual for anything but a sport vehicle. To me this will be a mundane transportation supplier with the occasional extra mobility.

When I moved to Montana, it was still legal to enjoy a road soda while driving. Talk of that sort of thing on here stirs up some of the local hornets though.

4 people in an access cab is less than ideal. If you don't plan to sleep in the bed of the truck and/ or will carry passengers regularly, go full 4 door.

Then I would recommend checking both out. Both my head units did the same thing it was just that Toyota changed suppliers. I think they use Panasonic now.

I hear ya. I love me the extra space for secure storage. And in MO drinking and driving is legal. Just don't go over the limit. Enjoy that 2X4 after the Cards game.

I looked at a few different trucks today. I drove a '15 TRD OR 4dr SC. It was in nice shape. It had a few cosmetic issues on the bumper and rear fender. No biggie to me if I can drive the price down.
I'm not sure about the lack of adjustments with the seats. I would really like some height adjustment. The front cushion is a bit low. Not uncomfortable but could be better. Remember I'm driving an Outback now with vastly superior seating.
Here are a few pics of it during my drive. I'm torn about this purchase. I've grown accustomed to a few more creature comforts. 80% of my driving is on the highway. It did well on the road but I now understand the sluggish auto comments. Really gotta goose it to get the revs up. It has 41K miles.
Anyway, if this can be had for around 27K, am I in the right ballpark? I'd have to chew on them a bit to get there from the asking of closer to 29. IMG_1498.jpgIMG_1501.jpgIMG_1504.jpgIMG_1502.jpgThe tires might make it till spring. The front bumper had some cover up work done. Drove straight. No navigation. Interior very nice condition.
I guess I need reassurance on this. It seems high to me but I'm not used to Tacoma pricing. Any inputs are welcome. Thank you.

Maybe you can haggle with them. On their website they're adding extra value by saying it's a trd pro. Since it's not a pro maybe they'll drop the price a bit.
