It's been settled that I will be getting a buy once cry once lift kit for my 2016 TRD OR. I'm torn between icon stage 2, toytec Boss Performance kit, and 6112/5160 kit.

It is my understanding that icon provides the most comfortable digressive valving and while adjustable isn't easy, toytec is a progressive system with good looks and is the easiest to adjust, and the 6112 is the best value. How true is all of this? Which one is the most durable for winters? I assume icon?

I'm probably doing an icon mini pack and will upgrade to Dakar full pack later on. I'm not sure if this will maintain a rake or not so please guide me on this as well.

I am about 75/25 road to off road ratio and love running fire roads super fast.

I'm in the process of making the same decision right now. Lots of people run Icon, but there have recently been some customer service horror stories. The 6112/5160 setup has rave reviews, even from @smitty99 ! I think it's important to be honest about what you want (and need) out of your setup - running forest service roads doesn't need a rig set up for the rubicon.

    I'll probably get the 6112s.

I have icon stage 2, great kit imo but the price is a little steep. Could've gone 6112 option for less than half the price and still done well. The good thing about Icon kit is that you get remote reservoirs, but take an honest look at how you want to use the truck and see if you think you really need them. 6112 will be the best bang for your buck, but I will say those remote reservoirs look damn good

And the feedback I see on icons similar to 5100s is that the dampers are valved a bit too stiff unless you're running extra weight it may feel a little harsh.

Throw some skid plates and sliders on and it isn't as bad, don't need full bumpers though

Do you have any feel for how the 6112 would handle skids and/or a bumper?

@smitty99 correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the 6112 is a softer shock and the 5100 will do better with extra weight. Of course if it is on the front you could switch to heavy springs.

I'm gravitating toward the 6112s right now but I would never consider something like the rubicon unless I had the stuff that could handle it. So I keep leaning icon. The toytec performance kit really interests me and I can't find alot of info on it. I'm not sure what a progressive valve feels like though.

Just start a conversation with her on TW, I guess you could call her too. Probably would get her faster with a call

How exactly do you adjust the icons? Do you just turn the top with the spanner? Can it be done without raising the truck off the ground?

I'd suggest taking the truck off the ground, there's a thing you turn on the top with a special tool that changes the number of threads currently exposed and adjusts the preload. More preload that is lifted up the less travel the shock has and the rougher it will ride

Are you referring to the nitrochargers? I read they are not good on washboards due to the twin tube design. Correct me if I'm wrong.

They have been good to me. Good bang for your buck. I have heard the opposite so I think it depends on where you look.

    Anyone seen my wallet?
I never heard much about nitrochargers but i got to ride in trucks with Icons, 5100s/eibach, and full OME nitrochargers/coils/dakars last week. The latter being a 2017.. it was actually really smooth, impressively smooth. We had been wheeling for a few hours, my back was already feeling it. Hopped into the 17 and it felt really soft and smooth.

If you intend on doing fire roads fast, for decent amounts of time, id recommend a setup with reservoirs. I have 5100s/OME coils now but have toytec boss 2.5 in a box, havent installed yet so cant comment on how they ride.

+1 for the 6112/5160 setup. I installed mine a few weeks ago and spent the past week wheeling in the rocky mountains. Did some rock crawling and ran some forest roads at 40ish mph and the ride is great. Beefy shocks and a good combo with OME dakars. Much smoother than stock TRD OR suspension on the highways on the way up there.

I wanted the icon setup but couldn't justify it for the price when the billies are the same size shocks for cheaper and the 6112's lifetime warranty.

Were you able to drive on both? Were the icons noticeably different?
