I have only had dump styles in my trucks: 72' Bronco and 94' Toyota 4x4...no problems with spare getting damage cause it was never facing the spare...

I have yet to modify my exhaust for dump style...going to do that later this summer...but the exhaust along with heat will not effect the spare tire at all...unless its directly sitting 1" away from the spare and facing the spare...but even that I doubt that would cause any damage...

Mine is dumped right before the axle. This takes a good bit of tubing out of the equation as well as several bends and I like the sound it gives bouncing off the pavement combined with my Flowmaster 40. I had the same setup on my '94 Dodge street truck. Check your local state laws on where the exhaust can dump though. Texas laws just require it to be behind the passenger compartment. So anywhere under the bed is fine for pickups.

cut mine right after the muffler and used an old piece of the curved piping i cut off as a turndown... got a muffler shop to expand the tubing to fit over the pipe closest to the muffler and welded it on... no change in anything that i've noticed except that it looks way cleaner in th rear now

    enough to get me there
Just installed a Magnaflow with turn down before the axle. 2.5" dual inlet / 3" single outlet. It does have a drone when I drive up hills, and when I'm constantly on the gas pedal. Quiet when you are at cruising speeds. Not sure if it will get annoying when the snowboarding season comes with all that mountain uphill driving. Wait n' see.

I know this thread is old but just wanted to say it helped me out on making my decision to cut my tailpipe off. I had to use a hack saw. It took a super long time, but I like the new look of no ugly pipe hanging out the backside.

It doesn't do any damage to the engine if I have about a foot of pipe coming from my new muffler does it?
