He is foxhead here on TW and his wheel/tire set up is on point.

305 MTRs on pro comp 16s with spacers. Not sure of the exact details

Hey. Great meeting you and Eric atop staircase at Slick Rock this weekend. I got word that a white truck rolled going down staircase? Hate to see it be you.

    Awesome build and badass truck!

I just got about the same wheel/tire setup for similar reasons; have couple questions....

What psi are you running on & off-road, and how are they wearing (even, quickly, any chunking, etc?)

First I ran mine at 28psi on-road (was running the stocks at 30psi) and my mileage only dropped bit over stock wheels/tires from 21.5 to 20.5 mpg. I noticed the outside inch off tread on the rears was showing no signs of contact with the road, so progressively dropped the pressure where they look like they will wear evenly and are at 24psi front & 22psi rear; so figure they might "want" 22 to 23 psi for even tread wear

What are you seeing for freeway MPG?

An unexpected perk at this lower pressure is the tires became much much quieter; not data yet how much this will drop the MPGs though but it doesn't seem like it will be a big drop...

Just one more thing; how are you liking 4.56s? Particularly while loaded in 4-hi on fire roads or snowy highway driving
    (I am on the fence between 4.56s & 4.88s)

(Also if this is an iffy post for a build thread; please let me know & I'll edit it. I am a kind of a newb and am not quite sure about the proper etiquette for all this stuff yet)

I'm running 35f/32r (depending on load) on the road and about 20 psi on the trail. When I first got them I played around a little with the pressure and didn't find much difference between 30 and 35 psi as far as contact patch goes. I think it is just a characteristic of the tire that the rounded parts of the side knobs do not contact the ground when going straight.

These tires have very thin sidewalls compared to MTs so I find that they get very squirmy at lower pressures.

As for mileage, I average about 18 mpg mixed highway/city. I get about 20 on the highway.

I'm still really happy with the decision to go 4.56. It got me back to stuck + "a little more" as far as powerband shift goes. I do a lot of highway driving so I didn't want to go 4.88s. In 4 HI, it gets around fine but I rarely use it... I'm usually in the LO range if I'm on dirt. I have yet to drive on any snowy roads in 4 HI. Hopefully I will get a chance this winter.

4.56 gears put me at 2750 for 70mph and gave a little more pickup than stock (4.10/31" tires). If you don't drive on the highway much, I would recommend the 4.88 set. If I recall, you can approximate the highway RPMs by pretending 4th gear is your 5th. That will get you close enough to see if you can live with it.

Since you're interested in tire wear, I thought you might be interested in the small amount of data I have collected so far. I only have two data points so this extrapolation can't really be that accurate but its interesting to look at none the less.

    tire-wear_zps0166aea7_a4093aa654773b1aa84c4fd12c9536d5bc658034.jpg

So according to what I have so far, these tires will last to about 40,000 miles by the time they get to 5/32" of tread remaining. Not too bad.

I have another question a about the fuse panel mount, what gauge steel is it and about what size of a piece did you start with? I'm at sea right now and forgot to measure/design the panel prior to departure. I will have access some scrap when we arrive in port but will have to fab it when I get back to Mt I guess or maybe back up north. The Taco spends summers in Mt. I am stuck with the 85 to play around with when I am back up in the big country.

How do you like the 33s and the 3rz? I have been debating going to 33s but mine is already pretty slow. Are you on stock springs with 5100s on the highest setting in the front?

If you go back to the first page, you will see that he has regeared to 4.56s. I have the same motor and tire size and I can tell you it's a noticeable power loss. However I'm regearing to 4.88s next month so that will help with that issue. Also he is running the 5100s on the lowest setting with OME 881 coil springs

I am not sure what gauge of steel it is, but if I had to guess it is probably 16 or 18 gauge. Just get whatever feels appropriate. You would only need to get one square foot to start with. Mine is about 7.5 x 7.5" of surface area on top with 1.5 - 2" tabs folded down on the side. If you weld the tabs together you can make it a strong structure and if you have a 98 like me, then the EVAP stuff underneath will support the (small) weight of the fuse block.

Btw, how did you end up on a boat in the AF?

As stated, 33's with the 3RZ/4.10 sucks. The gears made the truck fun to drive again.

These days, the front is sitting on some tired SAW coilovers. I haven't really kept up with this thread but I've been enjoying the truck and continuing to mod it.

The latest would be the coilovers, longer rear shackles, and as of saturday a RAT rear bumper. Also I put the shell back on.
