Personally, I don't care for Chris Kyle. However, I'm glad his killer was found guilty, because Murder is Murder, regardless of who the victim or who the perpetrator is.

What did he do, except kill a whole bunch of people that deserved a bullet, that makes you say that?

The case was never a question of guilt but a question of the accused and their state of mind at the time of the murders. Obviously to the jury the evidence was substantial as far as the mental state to bring forth a verdict in 2 hours. There had to have been some evidence of mental instability and true remorse for him not to get the death penalty. Especially in the state of Texas

No, I think it has more to do with the fact that he is a veteran himself. I think there is a rule that you can't seek the death penalty on a veteran.....I think. At least that is what I was told, I dont have any proof of that though.

That would be or is a crazy law. Veterans deserve benefits. But if one of them brutally murders someone. Then they deserve to die just like any other criminal.

Obviously I'm pro death penalty. But only for those that have done it without a doubt.

Also glad to see this guy get convicted.

Like I said, I just heard it so I am not positive. I said the same thing as you actually.

I just did a quick search and didnt see anything regarding it though.

Glad he got convicted as well.

I'll probably get :crapstorm: for this, but I read his book when it came out, and he struck me as a psychopath and a braggart. Some outside research calls some of his claims into question (e.g.- sniping from the Superdome post-Katrina). The movie paints a much different picture than the impression I got from his book. As a film, I think it's excellent and is a credit to Eastwood and the actors involved. But, to me at least, it paints a different picture than the book did. :notsure:

But, none of that has anything to do with the murder trial of his killer, and this isn't the appropriate venue to criticize the man, so that's all I'll say in the interest of keeping things civil in here.

Edit: I'm not trying to :stirthepot: here; just explaining my opinion.

....now the families of chris kyle and chad Littlefield will have to re-live all of this every few years for the next several decades while going through the appeals process. The suspect and his lawyers will continue to argue he is mentally ill, try to get his sentence reduced and have him moved to a custodial mental hospital.

Nothing wrong with having your opinion. I didn't read the book, but did hear some of the controversy behind it.

I'm glad he was who he was because he protected American soldiers and then continued to try to help them. So the rest gets a free pass. IMO.

As far as the braggart part. I feel like that's just part of his military experience. Certain branches specifically special forces. Like Seals. They pretty much train you to believe you're "the man" . But that's something that needs to be done, because in a war time situation specially with situations that Seals get into, you don't want a guy who doesn't truly believe he can do whatever has to be done next to you. That might get you killed.

I met a couple active Seals one time. They were not assholes by any means. But they were just super confident guys. But I could see how that could rub some people the wrong way.

I wouldn't be surprised if his life sentence gets sped up by other people inside

This. Murder is murder in my book. I'm very pro-death penalty. If it saves our country money by putting people to death instead of housing them, then why not do it? Same with any man who does ill acts against a woman or child. I have some clever ideas for that too but I'll stop now :)

What boggles my mind is that Rouths team mates said in an article that while they were deployed and don't recall seeing anything overly traumatic. the article said that at most Routh didn't like how the prisoners they guarded were treated. so I'm glad that pleading insanity was thrown out the window without any regard. and being that Rouths own teammates said they saw nothing overly traumatic makes me think that he developed his own demons through being an alcoholic and substance abuser.

his own uncle stated that they smoked a heavy amount a weed before he left with chris kyle and chad littlefield. admitting to murdering those men but pleaded by reason of insanity because he wasn't aware of what he was doing just shows there was some kind of substance abuse rather than an "episode of insanity"

can't find the article as i read it awhile back, but i want to say he admitted it while the trial was going on. i know that the families wanted to give their opening statements a day before Routh did so that they did not have to be in the same room with him and thats when Rouths uncle said that. Routh went back after the killings in kyles truck to his uncles and said he killed them only after running personal errands and buying food as stated in the OP

Doubt it. He's "celebrity" status... he'll be watched like a hawk by the officers and made sure to be kept safe.

I heard about it a couple times during the trial.

but in all honesty, not for just Routh, but I think we should find a remote island build a jail there with no resources meaning no food no fresh water, nothing and leave all murders to die... it would be a jail system of just murders, no guards, nothing but the clothes on their backs.... let them fight to survive.... they'll all be dead with in weeks...
