Another front diff down the tubes. Looks like I broke the spider gears and the chunks of crap got in the R&P and jacked it up also.

Thanks man. I just wish I had more progress and less breakage to show. But I guess breaking stuff is part of the fun.

I also ended up redoing the wiring on my flexalite fans and they have worked flawlessly since. I never liked the way they wanted you to wire it, but anyways I kept there controller box and am using it to trigger relays. I have each fan on its own relay and fuse. I still have my switch the same on/off/thermostat and if the controller acts up I just have to connect two wires at the controller and I still have on and off on my dash switch.

Picked up my new springs. now I have a week to get this thing all put together before the next Silver Lake trip.

Ended up going with Deaver E30's. I just hope my truck is heavy enough for them.

Figured I would make a list here of plans for this winter so I always have access to it.

Front long travel kit. MCM (ordered)
Front coil overs and airbumps: ADS
    Front bypasses: maybe
weld in TC cam tab gussets

Start an engine cage, at min going from coilbucket to coilbucket. Maybe new alum Radiator that doesn't hang down so low integrated in to cage

    Paint Bedsides
Longer limit straps for the rear.
Storage containers mounted in the bed

New front dif probably loaded with a trutrac.

Pull my transmission and figure out why I can't shift it.

If I get all this done then it will be time to finish the front section of the Cab cage.

Hopefully I have a productive winter the list is fairly long.

My 2cents...if it's worth that much.
Fuck the TC cam tab gussets. Just get the heim uppers from Matt and solid mount the lowers. The TC cam tab gussets are a giant pain in the ass and so not worth it. Just cut out the old tabs and make a solid mount lower and align from the heim uppers.

Tie your engine cage to your cab cage.

Truetrac in the front? Do you have auto hubs?

I always appreciate your 2 cents. I really don't have many people to bounce ideas and thoughts off of here so it is nice to have feedback.

My engine cage will be tied to the cab cage. I just want to do the front section of the engine cage then when I finish the cab cage I can punch the tubes through the firewall and finish. Might be alittle basackwards but it's how I have it worked out in my head.

I don't have manual hubs on the truck now. I just really need to get rid of the spider gears. I probably should just get an ARB but I probably won't use this truck for anything but Silver Lake anymore which means I don't even need 4x4. It will really just depend on where I'm at when I get that far. I do have manual hubs spindles somewhere I would just have to track down some factory CV's to use the outer off of.

Back to the heimed uppers. I know I should go this route but from a maintenance standpoint I am going to stay away from them as long as I can. The sand here is very hard on heims/ flexjoints/ uniballs. Truck has not even seen the road at full air pressure in at least a year so alignment isn't a huge issue.

Sorry for the long winded responses but that just how all these things make sense to me in my head. Please feel free to pick them apart its always good to hear another perspective

Have you ever driven a truck with a front locked? It's...interesting...to say the least. Having the ability to turn it off and on is pretty important to me. Manual hubs would help as you could keep one hub unlocked unless you needed it with that trutrack in there.

As for the heim uppers, honestly my biggest regret with my kit. For sandy environments, just don't use ANY lube, not even dry lube. The sand will wipe off as the heim rotates. Just wash with soapy water when you are done playing. My truck see's snow/shitty roads 4-5 months out of the year and I'm still on my original set of balls with no pitting, play, or rust.

I have owned and driven pleanty of vehicles with locked fronts, but I would not call a Trutrac a locker. I have had one in the front of a jeep and never really felt I had much adverse effects from it. Heck I would say that the factory front limited slips in my current Jeeps have worse characteristics.

I will kick around heimed upper some more. I see your point and agree I just need to get over how much I hated them on one of my race quads.

On another note have you ever seen anyone make a full fabricated 4x4 spindle and use early Tacoma manual hubs/ bearings? Was something I was going to find a fabricator could pull off years ago. Hopefully also could integrate a lower uniball and steering. No need for custom CV's is probably the only real advantage though.

Money is not my driving factor. Its really just trying to make the truck require as little maintenance as possible.

Front suspension is pulled off just waiting on parts so I can put the long travel on.

On another note I picked up a steering wheel and quick connect.

    LOL
i came in here to see your issues with your front diffs, as i have the same issues blowing diffs in the dunes. i have blown 4 now and im tired of it.
always starts from the spider gears....
will a true trac make a difference in the spider gears?
i just got my first front diff that has a locker in it and it has an ARB, so 4 spiders instead of 2.... hoping it will do better?

    nice man!
ive been watching your truck from the very beginning. i love it.

    Thanks man.

Ya I believe the trutrac will also eliminate the problem with the spider gears for two reasons. Higher quality parts. The second is what I was saying with the carrier flexing and causing poor mesh with the spider gears causing chips in the teeth. A stock carrier is a cast piece that is made with big windows where most lockers/ limited slips are mostly solid ( see below). The big windows on the stock carrier make it susceptible to flexing and twisting under force and the spider gears will separate putting more force on the end of the teeth where it is weaker. This is why it chips. Those chips then end up in the ring and pinion and end your day.
