Its not real likely this truck will ever see snow. If it did it wouldn't be on those tires anyhow. Realistically for me to pull it out to wheel in the snow a few other trucks would have to go down.

So I went to a car show that was an hour an a half away and decided to drive it not tow it. It was honestly a pretty enjoyable drive. On the way there took back road and on the way back did mostly highway to get a real world impression. The trans had no issues the only thing I really think needs to be changed is to move the torque converter switch closer to the shifter. I almost have to lean forward to hit it.

It was more comfortable than one of the other trucks we took. We definitely got some looks with Taco, beamed Raptor, C10, and Mclaren cruising down the road together

Found a fun jump at the dunes yesterday.

Unfortunately I need to be better about truck prep. After hitting that about 7 times I finally found a noise I was chasing.

More on that when I get home in a few days.

It was a good weekend at the dunes and for the first time in a decade I can say I made it the whole season on a transmission.
Unfortunately there was a fair amount of carnage.

The first day I broke the lower control arm. Unfortunately from the looks of it alittle prep would have prevented this. You can see rust on part of the crack. It was actually holding strong so I drove it out and pounded it back welded it in. These arms have survived breaking and rebuilding and plating in the Coil buckets and Frame, even when I sheared off the coilover bolt on the bottom tab going thru a whoop section at speed. Not to mention hitting rocks at offroad parks and stumps at the dunes. I still hold these are the stongest LCA's on the market and I believe I have proved that over and over again.

    IMG_3335.jpg

The rear end was making alittle noise but I was hoping to address it after the weekend. Went out day 2 and was having a great time and blew up the rear end breaking a shaft and putting thru the end cap. Looks like a bearing went on the third which took out the shaft but I havent had time to pull it to verify. Unfortunately the drive slug is probably trash also, it is one with the axle currently.

    IMG_1091.jpg

Both failures could have been avoided with alittle prep but thats how it goes. Sad part is this is still one of the cheaper seasons for me as long as my third isn't total trash.

What does everyone think should be next for this truck?

Video from our last trip to the dunes. Had a good time and found a good jump we hit a bunch. I broke my truck we fixed it and then broke more stuff. All makes for a good weekend with friends.

There is some good video of what broke and fixing what we could.

Took my rear end apart and cant believe how the shaft broke. It is twisted and stress cracks in multiple places. I would have thought I do not make enough power to do that to a 35 spline.

What kind of rear axle do you have?

Is it a power thing or shockloading?

My shafts are Currie chromoly. I am going to get 300M shafts made.

you are right it most likely is shock load. I am just surprised there was not a weaker link somewhere down the line. Oh well guess its time for 300M axles and see where the next weakest link is. At least its not a Transmission that breaks anymore I guess.

Considering how hard you huck that thing it's damn impressive how well it actually stays together at all

Edit: just skimmed through where you put in that rear axle... im suprised you broke it, definitely load and unload stress from over time.
Another edit: how did the diff hold up.

The diff would have been fine but the axle destroyed the preload adjuster and the race came out of the bearing. So not to well.C30CCB48-CFC9-47F8-A158-474D8C406783.jpg962C7A3F-04D8-4389-B4F7-1D997179CA26.jpg

So I was looking thru some pics and was reminded of this.
Pics are from a few years ago when I broke the front of the frame. When I pulled the diff it really spread.

Probably a result of stuff like the video below on a regular basis. I might be a little hard on the truck.

As we come to a new year I figure it was a good time to make a list of build plans for 2023.
Let me know you thoughts or what else I should do.

    Repairs:
-Fix my third member. Trying to decided if I should run my 4:88 or 5.29 now that I have the auto.
-Still need tires for my dunes rims.
-Still need 330M shafts for the rear.
    -New drive flange kit

    Improvements / upgrades:
-Total Chaos lower uniball conversion and heim steering.
-Upgraded Howe power steering pump with trailgear kit
-GM Hydraboost master cylinder to make room to finish my engines cage
-Move the front bump to bump off of the upper control arm and finish engine cage
    -Rear Fiberwerx 8" bedsides.
-Build a new exhaust from headers back. Not sure what muffler i am using.

What am I missing? What should I be doing?
