Less fees the better in my opinion but whatever works for the majority.

 

So people could Paypal me money and they can put it in this thread when they send it. And I will confirm on this thread said money when received. Then we can get her a nice Gift Card or something and mail it to her. Just a thought

Right now yes. I'm going to see if there's an easier way before it's an absolute. Once it's confirmed I'll update the first post with where to send anything (likely gonna be unchained 's email) and reminders to do it as a friends/family/gift so they don't charge anything.

 

I would not recommend having any individual holding the funds.

They could have tax implications, personal fees, and be subject to terms they may not know of.

I'd rather pay a fee to gofundme or whatever than subject someone, or myself, at risk.

There is also always the "go buy a 2016 and burn it" with the money option too.

Things happen, you don't know what could trigger someone to need the money and don't know their weaknesses either.

 

For taxes and Paypal, as long as you do not receive 5000$ in goods/services you are good and will not be taxed on it.

(Don't bother asking why I know that)

 

I haven't done any research on this particular idea, but check out crowd rise. fees are much better.

 

are you a tax adviser sir? what if said person exceeds that from the almighty great and generous TW, or has already taken on a personal project and/or sold goods?

 

I was just referring you to the "magic" number. What you do from there is on you.

 

I don't mean to be salty, I feel for this and admire all efforts of TW members to better someones life. But channeling money through any individual is a terrible idea.

 

someone could dispute the transaction after payment has been sent to said charity, resulting in the individual losing their own money.

if someone wanted to claim a tax deduction, they couldn't. (doubt this would be the reason in this case, but still valid)

someone could claim their money wasn't sent to the appropriate person, or the individual is skimming.

Also just a reference (if anyone knows another site/pricing) GofundMe takes about 8% per donation.

 

That's why I suggest a TW general donation fund, in form of a trust or a scholarship. How to do so, I've not a clue...

 

Wonder if they already have a donation site already going. Maybe there is someone who can be contacted that knows the family or something in that nature...

 

trust is not a easy process and still imposes risk

scholarship, idk.

this is the avenue i would pursue.
