That sucks, but I can see the reasoning behind it, that is a shit ton of lights. I have had no problems last 3 years I have done it. (knocks on wood)

I don't have the outlet in the bed and I really wanna do this too! What do I have to buy in addition to the lights and what do I have to do to wire the lights up ?

Plus I don't have any bed rails, the previous owner took them out before I bought them. Where would I zip tie them?

My third year to light up the truck for the kids - they love it. I don't drive around with them on much, just when appropriate. They are not super bright in your face from outside but certainly brighten up the inside and get everyone in the mood. They are LED lights with opaque covers to make them look sort of like incandescent lights. And I don't have an in-the-bed inverter, just a plug-in 100 watt inverter in the console and run an extension cord out through the back windows (duct taped closed). Three strands of lights that draw 2 watts each so no heat.

My cap had Thule rack tracks mounted on it when I bought it so I just used some longer bolts and made up some small brackets and wire ropes for hanging up wet paddling or camping gear. Turns out they work alright for hanging Christmas lights too. The Thule rack inserts in the cap were starting to get a little rusty and leak so I siliconed them all and replaced the short little screws with longer stainless steel bolts and fender washers and nuts - that way I know they are secure and water tight. Enough about that, on with the show.

Gonna make this long story short... I posted in this thread back in '09. Put some lights, a tree, and a deer in the back of my truck. It was a huge hit. Got stationed in Germany for 2 years. While my truck was out in front of the family business for sale, my grandpa put a tree in the back of my truck in '10 as tradition. Sold the truck, so there was no tree in a truck in '11. Now that I'm back stateside and have a '12 Tacoma, I wanted to continue the tradition. So here it is... another tree, a reindeer, and some more lights (shitty iphone pics. I'll post better ones later on)... ENJOY!!!!

anyone notice how this guy powers his lights? He deserves a ticket for being so stupid. Buy some LED lights and a power inverter.

Several years ago, my gf's mom gave me the deer as a joke gift after I destroyed the front of my truck hitting a real deer. She works for some distributing company and the deer was used for some holiday display. As for the lights on the rails, I have an access roll-up tonneau. The brackets that hold the tonneau on have a few places where I could snug the wire enough to where it would hold tight, but not damage the wire.

I very very very rarely drive down the road with the lights on. The only times I turn the lights on are when I leave the truck running while parked, at the gas station, convenience store, a friends house, what have you. 2 of my buddies work for the local police department, they've already warned me about running the lights while driving. The deer adds a little touch when the lights are off. Everyone in town gets a good laugh out of it.
